About the Licencia Clase D (Chile) Exam
The Licencia Especial Clase D authorises the driving of automotive machinery — tractors, seeders, harvesters, bulldozers, mechanical and loading shovels, road rollers, cranes, graders, backhoes, scrapers and similar equipment — under Article 12 of the Chilean Ley de Tránsito. Article 13 requires an applicant to be at least 18, to be able to read and write, and to demonstrate knowledge and practice in handling the machinery concerned; Article 14 places the theory and practical examinations with the municipal Departamento de Tránsito y Transporte Público. CONASET publishes the entire question pool in its cuestionario base for Classes A1*, A2*, D and E, which fixes the Clase D paper at 12 questions — 5 on road conduct and 7 on traffic law — with a pass at 9 correct and no more than 2 errors in the legal section. The official examination is sat in Spanish and uses three answer options per question. This practice bank is an English-language, four-option MCQ study adaptation of the CONASET curriculum — it is not an official translation, not a simulation of the exam's format, and not a substitute for the practical test.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many questions are on the Chile Clase D theory exam and what is the pass mark?
CONASET's cuestionario base sets the Clase D paper at 12 questions — 5 on Conducta Vial and 7 on Conocimientos legales y reglamentarios. A pass requires 9 correct answers, and in addition no more than 2 of the legal and regulatory questions may be wrong.
Are there mechanics questions on the Clase D theory exam?
No. The composition table in CONASET's cuestionario base assigns 0 questions on diesel mechanics and 0 on basic mechanics to Clase D; both appear only in the papers for the pre-1997 Clase A1 and A2 licences. Machinery competence is checked instead through the Article 13 requirement to demonstrate knowledge and practice, and through the compulsory practical test.
Can I see the Clase D questions in advance?
Yes. Unlike the Clase B exam, whose item bank is not public, the Clase D questions must be drawn from CONASET's published cuestionario base for Classes A1*, A2*, D and E, and that document prints the answer key at the end.
What are the requirements for a Clase D licence?
Article 13 of the Ley de Tránsito requires the applicant to be at least 18 years old, to be able to read and write, and to demonstrate knowledge and practice in handling the vehicles or special machinery concerned. A driving school course is not compulsory, but the medical examination, the moral-fitness check, the theory test and the practical test all are.
Is this practice bank the same as the official exam?
No. The official examination is sat in Spanish and uses three answer options per question. This practice bank is an English-language, four-option MCQ study adaptation of the CONASET curriculum — it is not an official translation, not a simulation of the exam's format, and not a substitute for the practical test.
How long does a Clase D licence stay valid?
Article 19 provides that the licence is of indefinite duration and remains valid while its holder continues to meet the legal requirements. Holders of a special licence must re-accredit moral, physical and psychological fitness every 6 years.
