About the WA Bar Exam
The Washington Bar Examination is the gateway to law licensure in Washington. Beginning with the July 2026 administration, Washington is an early adopter of the NCBE's NextGen Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), replacing the legacy UBE. The NextGen exam runs one and a half days and integrates doctrinal knowledge with foundational lawyering skills through roughly 120 standalone multiple-choice questions, 6 integrated question sets, and 3 performance tasks. Washington applicants must also pass the MPRE and complete the separate Washington Law Component (WLC). Washington is a community property state, so marital property characterization under RCW 26.16 is a critical state distinction, along with pure comparative negligence under RCW 4.22.005.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Washington Bar vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How do the Washington Bar vocabulary games work?
There are 4 games built on 20 Washington Bar terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.
Where do the Washington Bar terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) / Washington Supreme Court content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
What is the passing score for the Washington Bar Exam?
Washington's minimum passing score for the NextGen UBE is 610 on a scaled score that ranges from 500 to 750, set by Washington Supreme Court Amended Order 25700-B-747 (December 17, 2025). The same order lowered the legacy UBE passing score from 266 to 260 for the February 2026 exam, the last legacy UBE in Washington. NextGen scores are portable to other participating jurisdictions, subject to a 40-month score age.
Is Washington really giving the NextGen Bar Exam in 2026?
Yes. The Washington Supreme Court adopted the NextGen UBE starting with the July 2026 exam (Order 25700-B-710). A technology failure at the venue canceled the July 2026 exam for most applicants; they could take a fee-waived make-up exam on September 1–2, 2026 in Tacoma, transfer to February 2027, take a conditional exam waiver if they qualified, or withdraw with a full refund. Washington now gives the NextGen UBE every February and July.
