About the OH Bar Exam

The Ohio Bar Examination is the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), first given in Ohio in February 2021. It is administered over two days: Day 1 consists of two Multistate Performance Test (MPT) tasks and six Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) essays; Day 2 is the 200-question Multistate Bar Examination (MBE). The components are weighted MBE 50%, MEE 30%, and MPT 20%, and a combined scaled score of 270 out of 400 is required to pass. Because the UBE produces a portable score, Ohio examinees can transfer their scores to other UBE jurisdictions. Before admission, applicants must also pass the MPRE and the Ohio Law Component, a 50-question test on Ohio law. Ohio plans to transition to the NextGen bar exam in July 2028.
