About the MO Bar Exam

The Missouri Bar Examination is administered by the Missouri Board of Law Examiners under the Supreme Court of Missouri. Missouri was an early adopter of the Uniform Bar Examination (it began administering the UBE in February 2011) and is an early adopter of the NCBE's NextGen Uniform Bar Examination, holding its first NextGen administration in July 2026. The NextGen exam integrates eight foundational doctrinal subjects with seven foundational lawyering skills, delivered through integrated question sets, stand-alone multiple-choice questions, and performance tasks over about 1.5 days. Because the UBE tests general principles of law, Missouri separately requires the open-book Missouri Educational Component Test (MECT) on Missouri-specific law as a condition of licensure.
