About the AL Bar Exam
The Alabama Bar Examination is the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), which Alabama adopted in 2011. It is a two-day exam: Day 1 consists of the Multistate Essay Examination (6 essays) and the Multistate Performance Test (2 tasks); Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), 200 multiple-choice questions. The components are weighted MBE 50%, MEE 30%, and MPT 20% for a single combined scaled score. Alabama requires a 260 to pass, and a passing UBE score may be transferred to other UBE jurisdictions, each of which sets its own minimum score and time limit. Admission also requires an online course on Alabama law. Alabama is scheduled to adopt the NextGen Bar Examination in July 2028, together with a three-hour essay exam on Alabama law.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Alabama Bar vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How do the Alabama Bar vocabulary games work?
There are 4 games built on 20 Alabama Bar terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.
Where do the Alabama Bar terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the Alabama State Bar Admission Office (Alabama Board of Bar Examiners) content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
What is the passing score for the Alabama Bar Exam?
Alabama requires a Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) combined scaled score of 260 to pass. The score combines the MBE (50%), MEE (30%), and MPT (20%) into a single number — there is no separate pass/fail for each component. A UBE score earned in Alabama may be transferred to other UBE jurisdictions, each of which sets its own minimum score and maximum score age.
Is Alabama a UBE state or does it write its own essays?
Alabama is a UBE state. It adopted the Uniform Bar Examination in 2011, so it no longer writes its own Alabama-specific essays for the scored exam. Instead it administers the standardized Multistate Essay Examination (6 essays), the Multistate Performance Test (2 tasks), and the Multistate Bar Examination (200 questions). The exam is portable to other UBE jurisdictions. Admission also requires completing an eight-module online course on Alabama law, and a three-hour Alabama-law essay exam will be added when Alabama switches to the NextGen exam in July 2028.
