Frequently Asked Questions

Which Praxis Art test does this flashcard set cover?

This set covers Praxis Art: Content Knowledge, test code 5134. ETS also currently offers Art: Content and Analysis (5135), a distinct test with selected-response and constructed-response tasks plus an artwork-upload requirement. Because states choose which test they accept, candidates should verify the exact code required by their certifying state or agency before registering.

What is the current format of Praxis Art: Content Knowledge (5134)?

ETS lists 120 selected-response questions in 2 hours, delivered by computer. Images appear with some questions. ETS also states that the test may contain questions that do not count toward the score; those questions are not identified, so candidates should answer every item.

What is the official 5134 content blueprint?

Art Making accounts for about 76 questions, or 64%: General is about 15 questions (13%), and Media and Processes is about 61 (51%). Historical and Theoretical Foundations accounts for about 44 questions, or 36%: Materials and Processes in an Art Historical Context is about 6–7 (5%), the Western Tradition is about 17–18 (15%), Art Beyond the Western Tradition is about 9 (7%), and Responding to Art is about 11 (9%).

How are the 50 cards allocated to the ETS blueprint?

The set uses 32 Art Making cards and 18 Historical and Theoretical Foundations cards. In official subcategory order, the allocation is 7 General, 25 Media and Processes, 3 Materials and Processes in an Art Historical Context, 7 Western Tradition, 4 Art Beyond the Western Tradition, and 4 Responding to Art. This whole-card rounding preserves the official 64%/36% category split exactly.

What score is required to pass Praxis Art 5134?

ETS does not set one national passing score. Each state or certifying agency decides whether it accepts test 5134 and sets its own qualifying score. Check the current ETS State Requirements and Passing Score Requirements pages for the jurisdiction in which you seek certification. ETS does not publish a current nationwide pass rate for this test.

How is Praxis Art 5134 scored?

Correct selected responses earn raw points, with no subtraction for an incorrect answer; unanswered items are treated like incorrect answers. Questions used for pretesting do not count toward the score. The score report includes the reported score and raw-point performance by content category, while pass or fail depends on the qualifying score adopted by the relevant state or agency.

How long must I wait to retake Praxis Art 5134?

ETS requires the new test date for the same test to be at least 28 days after the previous test date, even if the candidate canceled the earlier scores. ETS permits repeated attempts and applies the same 28-day interval after a third failure; it does not publish a longer three-failure waiting period.
