Choose the Certification That Matches Your Work

For a broad technical foundation in Snowflake, start by reviewing SnowPro Core (COF-C03). If you already hold an active Core certification and need deeper role-specific coverage, compare the Advanced exams. If your work centers on Snowpark, Native Apps, or Gen AI, review the corresponding Specialty exam directly: the current Specialty pages list no certification prerequisites.

This is independent guidance from OpenExamPrep, not an official Snowflake training path. The certification names identify the exams discussed. Our suggested sequences are study advice; Snowflake sets registration and certification requirements.

We checked the official certification catalog, individual exam pages, FAQs, and program policies on September 28, 2026. The current catalog presents Core, Advanced, and Specialty series. An older Associate: Platform link used in this article no longer resolves, and Associate is not listed in the checked catalog. That does not establish the status of anyone's existing credential; it means we cannot recommend that old registration route as currently available.

The current MLOps page lists MLA-C01, not the older MLA-B01 beta. Native Apps is now NAS-C02, and Gen AI is GES-C02. Reusing an old exam-code list without checking the current catalog can send your study plan toward an earlier version.

Core: Broad Platform Preparation

SnowPro Core covers the platform across architecture, account administration, governance, loading, transformation, performance, and collaboration. Snowflake recommends six or more months of experience using its platform. The current exam has 100 questions, a 115-minute limit, and a passing scaled score of 750 on a 0–1000 scale.

For a working data professional who needs broad Snowflake knowledge, Core is a reasonable starting point. It is also the required certification prerequisite for Advanced exams. This makes Core useful for candidates planning a later role-specific credential, without implying that certification alone establishes production competence or guarantees a job.

Advanced: Match the Exam to Your Role

Snowflake's certification FAQ states that Advanced candidates need an active SnowPro Core certification. The standard Advanced fee is $375 per attempt. Choose an exam by the responsibilities you actually perform or are preparing to perform.

The catalog includes seven Advanced tracks, including MLOps Engineer. That page recommends substantial experience with enterprise ML lifecycles and Snowflake. Recommended experience is distinct from the formal Core prerequisite. Read the candidate profile for your exact exam rather than applying one experience number to all seven roles.

A practical sequence is Core, hands-on work in your chosen role, then the relevant Advanced exam. This is our suggested study sequence, not a requirement to take multiple Advanced exams. More certificates are not automatically a better use of your time than deeper experience in the role you need.

Specialty: Feature Depth Without a Core Prerequisite

The three current Specialty pages list No Prerequisites under Exam Details. You do not need an active Core or Associate certification to satisfy a certification prerequisite for these exams. They still target experienced practitioners; eligibility does not mean the material is introductory.

• Snowpark (SPS-C01): DataFrame-based processing, transformations and programming with Snowpark. The candidate profile recommends at least a year of production Snowpark experience.
• Native Apps (NAS-C02): Designing, building, deploying and maintaining Native Apps. The profile describes enterprise Snowflake experience and recent hands-on application development.
• Gen AI (GES-C02): Applying Snowflake Gen AI capabilities, governance and document processing. The profile recommends enterprise experience using Gen AI with Snowflake.

Each currently lists 55 questions, 85 minutes, and a standard $225 fee, with $180 for India. Check the exact page for question formats, language availability and current requirements.

For someone already working deeply with one of these features, a direct Specialty route can make sense. For a beginner who wants general platform fluency, foundational learning and Core preparation may be more useful first. Separate those learning recommendations from the formal registration rules.

Budget the Route You Actually Need

Using standard published fees and one successful attempt per exam:

For exams delivered in India, the corresponding published budgets are $140, $180, $440, $320 and $620. These calculations exclude optional training, travel, account usage, additional attempts and any charges shown at checkout. Snowflake's retake policy requires payment for each additional attempt; it does not provide a free retake with the original registration.

Before buying a course or booking several exams, identify your next work goal. A focused route can keep both study time and exam costs manageable. There is no need to purchase every exam in the catalog.

A Practical Decision Process

1. Identify the job task. Broad platform administration and development suggest Core; a mature role may point toward an Advanced exam; concentrated feature work may point toward Specialty.
2. Check formal eligibility. Keep Core active for Advanced. Do not add a Core prerequisite to Specialty when the current exam page says none.
3. Read the current objectives. Use the exam code listed today, especially for Native Apps, Gen AI and MLOps.
4. Build hands-on evidence. Work through tasks relevant to the objectives and explain why a choice works, including cost, access and operational implications.
5. Choose a realistic study schedule. Adjust time to your experience instead of treating an example schedule as a guaranteed completion date.
6. Recheck registration details. Confirm fees, delivery, identity requirements and appointment rules before paying.

Keep the Credential Active

Snowflake's program policies state that certifications expire after two years. Continuing Education offers renewal through eligible certification or instructor-led training activity completed before expiration. The exact activity must qualify for the credential you are renewing.

Earning another credential at the same level can extend active credentials at that level and below under the current policy. If a credential has already expired, do not assume a later activity retroactively renews it. Review the policy and your certification account before relying on a renewal plan.
