The standalone "Data Transformations" and "Data Protection & Data Sharing" domains no longer appear — their topics were merged into Performance/Querying/Transformation and Data Collaboration respectively. Heads-up on Openflow: Snowflake's new Openflow Connector platform (Oracle GA Feb 27, 2026) appears in Domain 3.2 but is explicitly excluded from the exam "until globally GA." If you see an Openflow question on a practice test, it is NOT on the live exam today.

This is the biggest domain on both exam versions and the single highest-ROI study area.

Three-Layer Architecture

Snowflake's separation of storage, compute, and services is the signature architectural differentiator. You must be able to explain, in one breath:

Domain 3: Performance Concepts (15% → ~21% when merged with Transformation)

Micro-Partitions

The single most-tested performance concept. Every table is automatically split into 50–500 MB compressed, columnar, immutable micro-partitions. Snowflake stores min/max metadata per column per micro-partition, enabling pruning — skipping micro-partitions that cannot contain the queried value.

You must memorize:

  • Micro-partitions are immutable — updates write new partitions and mark old ones deleted
