1.1 Course Eligibility, Educational Criteria & AS&RC Registration Process

Key Takeaways

  • The live PMA course notice, official registration portal, and candidate slip control eligibility; older Army notices are useful study references but are not a substitute for the current notification.

  • Historical official notices have separated applicants by education and service status, with different age, marks, marital-status, and relaxation rules for each category.

  • Foreign qualifications normally require IBCC equivalence, and identity, date-of-birth, and parent-name records should be made consistent before registration.

  • Applicants should preserve the submitted form and follow the exact document, fee, center, date, and reporting instructions printed for their own cycle.

1.1 Course Eligibility, Education, and Registration Verification

Source rule: Recruitment conditions can change by course. The active Pakistan Army notice, joinpakarmy.gov.pk entry, and the applicant's issued slip take priority over every coaching page, memory-based list, and older advertisement.

What the PMA Long Course Is

The Pakistan Military Academy Long Course is a regular-commission route for Pakistan Army officers. Candidates first pass the preliminary process administered through Army Selection and Recruitment Centres (AS&RCs). Those who continue are considered for later selection and medical stages, including the Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB). Passing a practice test or an initial screen is not a commission: each formal stage has its own decision.

The course number matters. A rule copied from an earlier intake may not apply to the current course, even when the route has the same name. Treat the following historical figures as a way to understand the categories that commonly appear, not as permission to apply. Previous official Army recruitment material has used brackets such as 17–22 for Intermediate candidates, 17–23 for holders of a two-year degree, 17–24 for holders of a four-year degree, and 17–25 for serving Army soldiers. Earlier notices also described limited age relaxation for some categories. Only the cutoff date and bracket in the live notice determine whether a particular date of birth qualifies.

Build an Eligibility Decision Sheet

Before registering, write down five items from the current notice:

  1. Applicant category: Intermediate, graduate, serving soldier, or another category named in the notice.
  2. Age on the stated cutoff date: Do not calculate from the registration date unless the notice says to do so.
  3. Nationality and domicile status: Read any instructions for Pakistani, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, or dual-national applicants exactly as published.
  4. Marital-status rule: The rule may differ for civilians and serving personnel.
  5. Education and marks: Record the required qualification, aggregate, result status, and any area- or service-based concession.

Historical official notices commonly required 60% in FA/FSc or equivalent for the standard Intermediate route, described 55% treatment for specified areas when all stated conditions were met, and used a different threshold for serving soldiers. The named areas and supporting-document rules have changed across notices. A candidate must therefore prove both the marks and every condition attached to a concession; a domicile alone should not be assumed sufficient.

Results Awaited and Foreign Qualifications

Earlier notices have allowed some result-awaiting applicants to use a school-issued hope certificate subject to marks and later-result conditions. Never invent the required percentage or certificate wording: copy it from the current course notice. A conditional application can still fail if the final result does not meet the notified standard.

Cambridge, International Baccalaureate, and other non-local credentials normally need an equivalence certificate from the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC). Letter grades and a foreign statement of results do not themselves establish the Pakistani percentage. Start equivalence early because processing time is outside the AS&RC's control.

Registration Workflow

Use the official Pakistan Army recruitment portal during the active window. Enter names, parent names, CNIC or B-Form details, date of birth, board, roll number, marks, and domicile exactly as they appear on the underlying records. Review the form before submitting it. Save or print the resulting slip and read every instruction on it.

If the active notice offers in-person registration, use only the listed AS&RC and take the documents specified for that route. Do not assume that a center, manual-registration option, postal order, photograph count, or fee from an older notice still applies. The slip is the candidate-specific instruction for the assigned center and date.

Document Audit

Prepare a simple three-column audit: record, exact entry, and matches all other records? Compare the Matric certificate, Intermediate or degree record, CNIC/B-Form, parent identity, domicile, and equivalence record. Pay special attention to spelling, spacing, date of birth, board roll number, and marks. If an official record is wrong, begin correction with the issuing authority before test day; an informal affidavit or verbal explanation may not be accepted.

Bring the originals, copies, photographs, attestations, and other items stated in the current notice or slip. Leave prohibited items at home. If the portal or slip is ambiguous, contact the official recruitment center rather than relying on a social-media answer.

Worked Verification Examples

Example 1 — age: A candidate is 22 today but the notice assesses age on a later cutoff date. The candidate calculates age on that named date, including months and days, and applies only the relaxation explicitly attached to the relevant education category.

Example 2 — concession: An applicant has 56% and a domicile from an area listed in an older advertisement. The correct action is not to assume eligibility. The applicant checks whether the current notice retains the concession and whether it also requires schooling or another certificate from that area.

Example 3 — A Levels: An applicant with A-Level grades obtains IBCC equivalence, then compares the equivalence percentage with the current PMA requirement. The applicant enters the equivalence data rather than estimating a percentage from letter grades.

Final principle: first identify the live course, then the applicant category, then the controlling date and supporting records. That order prevents most avoidable eligibility errors.
