These items reward precise recall of numbers and sequences: the $47 combo exam fee, the scaled score of 70, the $185 Sircon application, the one-year application window, and Nevada's distinctive 30 CE hours per three-year term.

The most expensive mistake on this portion is importing rules from another state. Candidates who memorized "24 hours every two years" or "40 hours of prelicensing" will choose trap answers that sound professional but are wrong for Nevada. This section locks in the resident P&C path end to end.

Prelicensing Education: Not Required

Unlike many states, Nevada does not mandate prelicensing education before a resident producer may sit for the Property, Casualty, or combined P&C exam. You may register with Pearson VUE after independent study, pay the exam fee, and test when ready.

Optional approved courses exist and generally improve pass rates, but no statutory minimum hour count blocks your exam appointment. Any approved Nevada course may carry small statutory surcharges (for example, contributions to the Commission on Postsecondary Education and the Student Indemnification Fund), yet zero hours remain the legal floor.

Exam trap: A stem that says Nevada requires "20 hours per line," "40 hours combined," or "60 hours before testing" describes other states, not Nevada. The binding pre-exam requirements are passing the exam, applying within the statutory window, and completing fingerprinting — not classroom hours.

What You Still Must Do Before Selling

Even without prelicensing, a new P&C producer must:

1. Pass the appropriate Pearson VUE exam (scaled 70 under NAC 683A.270).
2. Apply for a resident license through Sircon within one year of passing.
3. Submit fingerprints through an approved vendor such as IdentoGO (currently about $60).
4. Clear the Division of Insurance background review.
5. Obtain insurer appointments before placing business with specific carriers.

Examination and Application Sequence

The October 2024 Pearson VUE outline assumes you understand how exam success converts into a license. For the combined P&C exam:

Sircon Application ($185)

After passing, resident producers apply electronically through Sircon (sircon.com/nevada). The state license application fee is $185, plus Sircon transaction fees. Nevada's current resident workflow emphasizes Sircon rather than NIPR for the initial application described in Division materials — confirm the latest handbook if both portals are listed, but exam items keyed to "resident apply via Sircon" are common.

You must file within one year of your passing date. If you wait longer, the exam result expires and you must retake the exam and pay the fee again. Continuing education credits, fingerprint delays, or employer paperwork do not extend exam-result validity.

IdentoGO Fingerprinting

Nevada requires a fingerprint-based criminal history check (FBI and Nevada DPS) for every new resident applicant. Recent Division process changes mean the order matters: you generally apply first, receive a confirmation or transaction ID, then take that ID on the Fingerprint Authorization Form to IdentoGO or another approved vendor.

Completing fingerprinting before applying without the authorization form can delay processing — another sequence trap.

Worked Scenario: Reno New Producer

James passes InsNV_PC06 on March 12 with a scaled score of 73. He opens his Sircon application the same week, pays the $185 fee, and schedules IdentoGO in Reno with his confirmation number. DPS clears his background by late March, and the Division issues his license in April. His one-year clock started March 12, so even a September application would be safe — but waiting until April of the following year would force a retake.

Continuing Education: 30 Hours Per License Term

Nevada licenses run on a three-year (triennial) term, not the biennial cycle used in many states. Continuing education (CE) is due each term:

Renewal date: the first day of the month following the month the license was originally issued, every three years — keyed to issue date, not your birthday.

Exam trap: "24 hours biennially including 3 ethics" is the classic wrong answer. Nevada is 30 / 3 years / 3 ethics.

P&C-Specific Training: Flood Insurance

Producers licensed in Property and Casualty who sell National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies must complete a one-time 3-hour flood course. Unlike some one-time product gates, this training counts toward the 30-hour CE total. It is a frequent distinction item: required before selling flood, but still CE credit.

CE Exemptions (Limited)

Certain producers — for example, those with 20+ years of continuous experience, specific professional designations (CLU, CPCU, CIC, ChFC, CFP), or limited-line licenses only — may qualify for partial or full CE exemptions under NAC rules. Even exempt producers must still complete product-specific mandates that apply to their sales activity. Do not assume exemption from the 30-hour rule without checking current NAC 683A provisions.

After Issuance: Staying Licensed

A lapsed license means stop transacting immediately. Reinstatement generally requires outstanding CE, renewal fees, possible late/reinstatement penalties, and Division approval. Continuing to solicit or bind coverage on a lapsed license is unlicensed activity — grounds for fines up to $10,000 per violation, suspension, or revocation.

Producers must also report name and address changes within statutory windows (commonly 30 days) and maintain insurer appointments for each carrier whose products they place.
