Can You Take the NFPA CFI-I Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Complete the 17-activity Practicum Workbook (4 Administration activities, 13 Field Inspection activities)
- •Submit a Practicum Proctor Affidavit verifying completion
- •Pass the exam AND complete the practicum within 12 months of application approval
- •NFPA will no longer accept new CFI-I applications after June 30, 2026 - the program is being replaced by the consolidated NFPA CFI certification under NFPA 1030

Retake Policy
Candidates who fail may retake the exam for a $249 retest fee. You have 12 months from application approval to pass the exam AND complete the practicum workbook. Candidates who do not complete both within 12 months must reapply as a new candidate.
