Education
Candidates must be ophthalmology specialists or final-year ophthalmology residents in an eligible country, depending on route.
Experience
Specialist applicants must be qualified as specialists at the time of application. Resident applicants must be in the final year of residency at the time of the exam, with country-specific variations such as UK fourth-year training and Ireland MRCSI requirements.

Current EBO structure pages state that candidates must score 6 or greater in Part I to pass, that candidates must score 6 overall to pass, and that one Viva Voce or Clinical Case station may be below 6 only if the MCQ score and overall score are both above 6. Scores are rescaled so that the cohort mean minus one standard deviation is assigned a 6.

The EBO fee page states that the fee to sit the EBOD Examination is EUR 600. The fee is paid online and is not refundable if the candidate does not attend or does not pass.
Exam Fee
Prerequisites: Specialists in ophthalmology in eligible European countries may apply with National Delegate confirmation. Final-year residents in eligible countries may apply with Head of Department approval and National Delegate confirmation, with country-specific rules.
Valid for: Successful eligible candidates may receive the European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma and use the Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) title after diploma requirements are met. EBO states EBOD is voluntary in most EU countries, although some countries use or recognise it within national specialist assessment.
