Rules Governing Inactive Status

Contractors who temporarily stop contracting (e.g., taking an in-house corporate job or retiring) can transfer their license to Inactive Status under B&P Code § 7076.5:

• No Work Allowed: An inactive licensee is strictly prohibited from contracting, submitting bids, advertising, or securing building permits. Contracting while inactive is prosecuted as unlicensed contracting under B&P Code § 7028.
