What the Definitions Anchor
Section 3 defines a slag inclusion as a nonmetallic solid entrapped in the weld metal or between the weld metal and the parent material (3.1.54), and porosity as gas trapped by solidifying weld metal before the gas has a chance to rise to the surface of the molten puddle and escape (3.1.35). - HB: gas — chiefly hydrogen and carbon monoxide generated by cellulosic electrode coatings — entrained along the solidifying centerline of a fast vertical-down root pass.
