Candidates who test at a Prometric test center receive an email with instructions for retrieving the result through the Prometric Report Validation Portal; results are transmitted to ANCC within 24 to 48 hours of testing. Results are never released by telephone, fax, or email. A failing report adds diagnostic feedback of LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH for each content domain, pinpointing where remediation is needed before a retest.

5-Year Renewal Requirements

The CV-BC credential is valid for 5 years. To renew, nurses must:

1. Maintain a current, active RN license.
2. Complete the mandatory 75 continuing education contact hours (CE CH) directly related to the full scope of cardiac-vascular nursing, of which at least 60 of the 75 must be formally approved CNE, AMA PRA Category 1 CME, or Joint Accreditation hours. 4. Pay the renewal fee before the certification expires.

[!WARNING] Frequently misstated: practice hours are not a mandatory renewal requirement for CV-BC. The 1,000-hour figure belongs to Category 7, which is only one of eight optional professional development categories — a certificant who renews using academic credits, a preceptorship, or a quality improvement project needs no practice hours at all. Note also that, effective January 14, 2026, renewal activities must be completed within the 5-year certification period and before the renewal application is submitted.
