Can You Take the ABMP Medical Health Physics Exam?

Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements

Age
Education
Graduate degree in Physics, Medical Physics, Health Physics, or other appropriate and related field from an accredited university
Experience
Clinical medical physics experience under a board-certified medical physicist before Part II: 0 to 4 years depending on degree (for example, 4 years with an M.S. in physical science or engineering, 1 year with a CAMPEP-accredited M.S., and none with a CAMPEP M.S. plus residency); training years count at one-half
Additional Requirements
  • •Parts I and II may be taken concurrently; Part I must be passed (or waived) and Part II passed before applying for Part III
  • •Two endorsements on ABMP forms: one from a board-certified physicist and one from a board-certified physician
  • •MHP Training and Education Form documenting radiation safety training is required for Part II
  • •Qualified Certified Health Physicists (CHPs) with a graduate degree and required experience may apply directly to the Part III oral exam
  • •Part I may be waived for candidates who passed the ABR, CCPM, or ABHP Part I exam within the previous 10 years
  • •Any part failed three times requires reapplying for the entire sequence, and certification must be completed within 10 years
  • •Initial certification is valid for 5 years and is renewed every 5 years with 125 continuing education credits (at least 65 Category 1)
