1An ordinary motorcycle approaches an intersection on a two-way road. There is no special turn instruction, but the inner lane is marked 禁行機車. How must the rider turn left?
A.Use a two-stage left turn rather than turning directly from any lane
B.Turn directly from the outer lane after signaling
C.Enter the prohibited inner lane solely for the turn
D.Choose either method if there are three lanes in that direction
Explanation: Article 99 requires a two-stage left turn when the inner lane prohibits ordinary motorcycles. Its separate three-fast-lane rule concerns one-way roads and the rider's position, so lane count alone must not be generalized to every road.
2A signed two-stage left turn has a waiting box at the far-right corner. Your original direction receives green. What sequence should you follow?
A.Travel to the waiting box, face the new direction, stop, and wait for that direction's straight-ahead permission
B.Reach the box and continue immediately if the original light remains green
C.Turn directly across the intersection from the right lane
D.Use the pedestrian green signal as permission to ride across the crosswalk
Explanation: The first stage is made under the original direction's straight-ahead permission. After repositioning in the waiting area, the rider must obey the signal for the new direction before continuing.
3An ordinary heavy motorcycle has a fixed passenger seat behind the rider. What passenger capacity does Article 88 permit?
A.One passenger
B.Two passengers if one is a child
C.Two adults on short trips
D.No passenger even with a fixed rear seat
Explanation: A heavy or ordinary light motorcycle with a fixed rear seat may carry one passenger. Small light motorcycles are a separate category and may not carry passengers.
4Where may a passenger sit on an ordinary scooter equipped for carrying one passenger?
A.Astriding the fixed rear passenger seat
B.Standing on the front floorboard
C.Sitting sideways on the rear seat for a short trip
D.Between the rider and handlebars if the passenger is small
Explanation: Article 88 permits the passenger on the fixed seat behind the rider and prohibits side-saddle seating. The front floorboard is not a lawful passenger seat.
5Which helmet arrangement meets Article 88 for an ordinary motorcycle rider and passenger?
A.Both wear approved motorcycle helmets that fit securely, face forward, and have fastened chin straps
B.Only the rider wears a helmet
C.Both wear motorcycle helmets but leave the straps loose for ventilation
D.The passenger uses a bicycle helmet on low-speed trips
Explanation: The rule requires approved motorcycle helmets with the inspection mark and correct, secure fastening. Both the rider and passenger must comply.
6What maximum cargo weight does Article 88 specify for an ordinary two-wheeled heavy motorcycle?
A.80 kilograms
B.50 kilograms
C.100 kilograms
D.20 kilograms
Explanation: The heavy-motorcycle cargo limit is 80 kg. The same article gives different limits for ordinary light and small light motorcycles; the vehicle's other loading and safety restrictions still apply.
7A motorcycle delivery load is below the rider's shoulders, extends 8 cm beyond each handlebar end, and extends 60 cm behind the rear axle. Assuming all other conditions are met, which dimension violates Article 88?
A.The rear extension
B.The height
C.The extension beyond each handlebar
D.None, because the load is tied down
Explanation: Rear extension measured from the rear axle must not exceed half a meter, so 60 cm is too long. The stated height and eight-centimeter side extensions are within the respective shoulder-height and ten-centimeter limits.
8An ordinary motorcycle is on a marked road with no posted speed limit and is not in a separated slow lane. What default maximum applies?
A.50 km/h
B.60 km/h
C.40 km/h
D.30 km/h
Explanation: Article 93 normally sets 50 km/h on unsigned roads. Lower defaults apply to separated slow lanes and roads lacking the specified lane or direction markings.
9What default maximum applies to an unsigned slow lane separated by a fast-slow lane dividing line?
A.40 km/h
B.50 km/h
C.60 km/h
D.30 km/h
Explanation: The separated slow-lane exception in Article 93 sets 40 km/h. Posted restrictions and conditions requiring slower travel must still be obeyed.
10An inner lane is marked 禁行機車 with no supplementary exception. What does this mean for an ordinary heavy motorcycle?
A.It must not travel in that lane
B.It may use the lane whenever traffic is light
C.It may enter if traveling at the posted maximum
D.It may enter whenever no passenger is carried
Explanation: The marking prohibits ordinary motorcycles from using the lane. Large heavy motorcycles have a different general regulatory treatment, so this restriction should not be described as covering every motorcycle class identically.

Taiwan Motorcycle Theory Test: Suggested Study Strategy

1Use the official hazard videos and current motorcycle question bank as well as text practice.
2Distinguish ordinary heavy and light motorcycles from large heavy motorcycles before applying lane and road-access rules.
3Read signs and markings before applying the default turning provisions.
4Use progressive braking suitable for the motorcycle and conditions; do not memorize a universal 70/30 lever-force split.
5Practice track control and safe riding separately; MCQs cannot certify balance, braking skill, or road judgment in motion.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current motorcycle written-test format?

From January 30, 2026, there are fifty three-choice questions in thirty minutes. Ten hazard-perception video questions and five situational questions form part of that total. The passing threshold remains 85/100.

Can I take the official test in English?

Yes. Written versions include Chinese, English, Japanese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese, and Khmer; audio services also include Taiwanese Hokkien and Hakka. Request the service at booking. This independent four-option study adaptation is not the official translation or simulator.

What else is required for a first ordinary motorcycle license?

Applicants must be at least 18 and supply the required identity, photographs, and approved health examination. First-time applicants complete the 120-minute safety lecture and the hazard-perception experience required before online booking. The practical track test is also required; written practice alone does not establish riding ability.

How much does the application cost?

The full application is NT$250, comprising NT$125 written and NT$125 practical fees. An eligible single-subject retest within the applicable one-year period costs NT$125. License issuance costs NT$200; health checks and test-vehicle use can cost extra.

When may I retake a failed test?

The official office instructions specify a seven-day wait after a failed written or practical test. The health form and passing written result remain valid for one year under the published rules.

Does every road with three lanes require a two-stage left turn?

No. Follow the signs and markings first. Article 99 also addresses prohibited inner lanes and particular positions on one-way roads with at least three fast lanes. It is incorrect to turn that provision into a blanket rule for every road with three lanes in one direction.
