1A sequence follows the rule 'double the previous term, then add one': 3, 7, 15, 31, 63. What comes next?
A.126
B.127
C.95
D.129
Explanation: Doubling 63 gives 126; adding one gives 127. The stated rule generates each preceding term too.
2A budget falls by 20%, then rises by 25% of its reduced amount. How does the final budget compare with the original?
A.5% higher
B.5% lower
C.Unchanged
D.2.5% higher
Explanation: Starting with 100 units, the reduction leaves 80. The increase adds 20, restoring 100: 0.80 × 1.25 = 1.
3Opposite faces of a die sum to seven. The top is four and the front is two. What is the product of the bottom and back faces?
A.12
B.18
C.10
D.15
Explanation: The bottom is 7 − 4 = 3 and the back is 7 − 2 = 5. Their product is 15.
4In a hypothetical planning exercise, has a town exceeded 50,000 residents? Statement 1: it had 42,000 residents three years ago and gained at least 3,000 each subsequent year. Statement 2: births exceeded deaths by 6,000 over those years and net migration was positive. Assess each statement independently.
A.Statement 1 alone is sufficient
B.Statement 2 alone is sufficient
C.Both are required
D.Even both are insufficient
Explanation: Statement 1 establishes a lower bound of 42,000 + 9,000 = 51,000. Statement 2 gives growth without a starting population. The threshold is hypothetical, not a Senegalese legal rule.
5Three officers process identical dossiers independently at constant rates. They individually take six, four and three hours to process 60 dossiers. Working together, how long do they need for 90 dossiers?
A.1.5 hours
B.2 hours
C.2.5 hours
D.3 hours
Explanation: Their rates are 10, 15 and 20 dossiers per hour. The combined rate is 45, so 90 ÷ 45 = 2 hours.
6Of 120 candidates, 70 pass a law exercise, 60 pass an economics exercise and 45 pass both. How many pass neither?
A.25
B.15
C.35
D.10
Explanation: The number passing at least one is 70 + 60 − 45 = 85. Subtracting from 120 leaves 35 who pass neither.
7A cipher shifts successive letters forward by one, two, three, four, five and six positions. What does ARRETE become?
A.BSUIYK
B.BTTIYK
C.BTUJZL
D.BTUIYK
Explanation: The shifts give A→B, R→T, R→U, E→I, T→Y and E→K. Reading the results in order gives BTUIYK.
8Assume that every embezzlement causes an audit failure. An agency fails its audit, so an analyst concludes that embezzlement occurred. Which reasoning error is present?
A.Affirming the consequent
B.Denying the antecedent
C.Contraposition
D.Modus ponens
Explanation: The premise is 'if P, then Q'; the analyst observes Q and infers P. Other causes could also produce Q, so the inference is invalid.
9Which statement best expresses the constitutional combination of a secular State and freedom of religious belief in Senegal?
A.The executive's religion determines access to public employment
B.The State respects beliefs while ensuring equality before the law
C.Religious communities replace the civil courts for every citizen
D.Freedom of conscience applies only to recognized religious organizations
Explanation: The Constitution describes a secular Republic and equality without distinction of religion. Respect for beliefs and freedom of conscience are compatible with that constitutional neutrality.
10An essay asks whether digital registration necessarily improves access to public competitions. Which thesis offers the strongest analytical starting point?
A.An online service guarantees equal access
B.Digitization necessarily excludes every rural applicant
C.Digitization can reduce travel barriers, but access also depends on connectivity, skills and assistance
D.The number of websites alone establishes effective access
Explanation: This thesis identifies a benefit and the conditions needed to realize it. It invites evidence about actual access instead of treating a technology's existence as proof of an outcome.
