1Which vehicle combination belongs to Slovak driving-licence group CE under Act No. 8/2009 Z. z.?
A.A group C motor vehicle with a trailer whose maximum authorised mass exceeds 750 kg
B.A group C motor vehicle with a trailer whose maximum authorised mass is at most 750 kg
C.A group C1 motor vehicle with a trailer, if the combination is at most 12,000 kg
D.A group D bus with a trailer whose maximum authorised mass exceeds 750 kg
Explanation: Section 75(12) of Act No. 8/2009 puts into group CE combinations made up of a group C motor vehicle and a trailer whose maximum authorised mass exceeds 750 kg. Articulated lorries are included: Decree No. 9/2009 § 22(2)(k) even lets the CE driving test use a group C vehicle with a semi-trailer.
2Which driving-licence group must an applicant already hold before Slovakia can grant group CE?
A.Group B, held for at least three years
B.Group C
C.Group C1E
D.Groups BE and C1 together
Explanation: Under § 76(12) of Act No. 8/2009, group CE may be granted only to an applicant who already holds group C. Group B is the prerequisite for C itself.
3A driver holds groups B, C and CE but not group D. Which other groups does the CE licence also cover?
A.C1E and BE, but not T
B.C1E, BE, T and DE
C.C1E, BE and T
D.BE and T, but not C1E
Explanation: Section 76(12) of Act No. 8/2009 says that group CE also entitles the holder to drive groups C1E, BE and T. It covers group DE only if the holder also holds group D, which this driver does not.
4What is the general minimum age for being granted driving-licence group CE in Slovakia?
A.18 years
B.24 years
C.19 years
D.21 years
Explanation: Section 78(1)(e) of Act No. 8/2009 sets 21 years as the minimum age for groups C, CE, D1 and D1E. Section 78(7) allows group CE from 18 only under special conditions.
5A 19-year-old applies for group CE. Under what condition can Slovakia grant it at that age?
A.After the basic qualification course, or with a C1/C1E qualification card
B.After holding group C for at least one year without a traffic offence
C.Only with a national code that limits the licence to driving in Slovakia
D.Only if the haulage company employing the driver applies on their behalf
Explanation: Section 78(7) of Act No. 8/2009, as amended by Act No. 131/2026 from 1 September 2026, allows groups C and CE from 18 if the applicant has completed the basic qualification course or holds a driver qualification card for goods vehicles of group C1 or C1E. Until 21, such a CE holder may drive CE combinations only with a driver qualification card (§ 76(12)).
6A group CE holder wants to tow a heavy trailer with a group C1 truck, giving a combination over 12,000 kg. What does § 76(12) of Act No. 8/2009 say?
A.It is not allowed, because such a combination always needs a C1E test
B.It is allowed on Slovak territory under the CE licence
C.It is allowed only if the trailer itself does not exceed 3,500 kg
D.It is allowed only with a permit from the traffic inspectorate
Explanation: Section 76(12) of Act No. 8/2009 lets a group CE licence cover, on the territory of Slovakia, a combination of a group B or C1 towing vehicle and a trailer where the combination exceeds 12,000 kg. Such combinations are outside group C1E, which is capped at 12,000 kg.
7How does Act No. 8/2009 Z. z. define a vehicle combination (jazdná súprava)?
A.A motor vehicle towing a broken-down motor vehicle on a rope or bar
B.Any goods vehicle whose maximum authorised mass exceeds 7,500 kg
C.One or more motor vehicles coupled with one or more trailers
D.A truck that carries a demountable body or container on its chassis
Explanation: Section 2(2) of Act No. 8/2009 defines a vehicle combination as one or more motor vehicles together with one or more trailers (prípojné vozidlá). Towing a broken-down vehicle is regulated separately as towing in § 34.
8Section 10(2) of Act No. 8/2009 restricts lane use for some vehicle combinations on roads with three or more lanes in one direction outside municipalities. Which combinations?
A.Combinations whose maximum authorised mass exceeds 7,500 kg
B.Combinations whose trailer has three or more axles
C.Combinations whose trailer exceeds 3,500 kg
D.Combinations whose overall length exceeds 7 m
Explanation: Section 10(2) covers trucks over 3,500 kg, vehicle combinations longer than 7 m, special motor vehicles and slow motorcycles. On roads with three or more marked lanes in one direction outside municipalities they may overtake only in the second lane from the right edge, and use other lanes only to bypass, make a U-turn or turn.
9In a town, you drive a 15 m truck-and-trailer combination on a road with two marked lanes in your direction. Which lane must you normally use?
A.The right lane; others only to bypass, overtake, make a U-turn or turn
B.Any lane, because the lane rules of § 10(1) do not apply in municipalities
C.The left lane, so that cars and buses can use the right lane to stop
D.The lane with less traffic, changing lanes as often as traffic requires
Explanation: Section 10(3) of Act No. 8/2009 lets most drivers in a municipality use any lane, but not trucks over 3,500 kg or combinations longer than 7 m. For them § 10(1) and (2) apply in towns too, so they keep to the right lane and use other lanes only to bypass, overtake, make a U-turn or turn.
10On a motorway, which drivers must not overtake another motor vehicle under § 35(3) of Act No. 8/2009?
A.Drivers of any vehicle that tows a trailer, whatever the trailer's mass
B.Drivers of N vehicles or combinations over 7,500 kg
C.Drivers of combinations longer than 7 m, whatever their mass
D.Drivers of N vehicles over 3,500 kg, but not drivers of combinations
Explanation: Section 35(3) of Act No. 8/2009 forbids the driver of a category N vehicle with a maximum authorised mass over 7,500 kg, or of a vehicle combination whose maximum permissible mass exceeds 7,500 kg, to overtake another motor vehicle on a motorway. Act No. 131/2026 kept this ban unchanged.

About the Slovakia Theory Test CE Exam

Group CE covers combinations of a group C motor vehicle (over 3,500 kg) and a trailer whose maximum authorised mass exceeds 750 kg, including drawbar trailers and semi-trailers. It can be granted only to a group C holder, normally from age 21 (from 18 after the basic qualification course or with a C1/C1E driver qualification card). Applicants take an electronic theory test before the driving test: 40 random questions in 30 minutes, three answer choices each, and a pass mark of 90 out of 100 points (Decree 9/2009 § 18). CE-specific pool questions cover coupling and uncoupling, ABS pairing, descent braking with a trailer and combination rules. The test is offered in Slovak, English and Hungarian. This independent OpenExamPrep bank has 80 original English four-option questions, two for each official question slot, written from Act 8/2009, Decree 9/2009, Decree 30/2020, Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 and the MV SR pool. It is an English-language study aid, not the official question pool, a translation of it or an exam simulation.

Exam sponsor: Ministry of Interior (MV SR) exam commissioners conduct the exam (Act 8/2009, § 80(1)); the driving school registers the candidate with the Policajný zbor traffic inspectorate (§ 80(2)); the question pool is published on minv.sk. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Assessment

The proficiency exam for group CE starts with an electronic theory test and continues with a driving test on a group C vehicle with a semi-trailer or a drawbar trailer (Decree 9/2009, § 22(2)(k)). Under Decree 9/2009 § 18 the theory test has 40 random questions from the MV SR pool in the same ten areas as other groups; for group CE one safe-driving question is replaced by a cargo-safety question and one documents question by a working-time question, and the construction questions include the trailer coupling device and its check (§ 18(10)(m)). The test is available in Slovak, English and Hungarian. Official questions have three answer choices; this independent bank uses four-option questions.

Slovakia Theory Test CE: Suggested Study Strategy

1Master combination rules: 90 km/h maximum speed outside built-up areas and on motorways, no motorway overtaking for combinations over 7,500 kg, and lane use restrictions for combinations over 7 m.
2Learn coupling and uncoupling in the pool's order: secure the trailer, disconnect or connect the lines at the right moment, and check that the coupling or fifth wheel is locked and secured.
3Know brake dynamics: never couple a trailer over 3.5 t without ABS behind an ABS towing vehicle, and do not rely on the engine brake alone on slippery descents.
4Review drivers' hours under Regulation (EC) No 561/2006: 4.5 hours driving before a 45-minute break (or 15+30 min), 9 hours daily (10 hours twice weekly), and roadside checks covering the current day plus previous 56 days.
