A.Spoštovani,
B.Dragi prijatelji,
C.Pozdravljeni vsi skupaj,
D.Častiti gospodje,
Explanation: In formal Slovene administrative and business correspondence (uradno dopisovanje), 'Spoštovani,' (or 'Spoštovana gospa / Spoštovani gospod' when the recipient is known) is the canonical, universally accepted respectful salutation followed by a comma, after which the body begins with a lowercase letter.
2What is the standard organizational structure of an official formal request or application (*uradna prošnja / vloga*) in Slovene administrative communication?
A.Recipient data and date, then the request, with no subject line, signature block or list of attachments
B.Sender and recipient data, place and date, subject (Zadeva), reasoned request, closing, signature, attachments (Priloge)
C.Subject line first, then the closing greeting, then the reasons, with the sender's data at the very end
D.Sender data, an informal greeting, a personal account of the situation, and a closing without signature
Explanation: A Slovene official request (uradna prošnja or vloga) contains the sender's data, the recipient's data, place and date, a subject line ('Zadeva: ...'), the body stating the request and the reasons for it, a closing such as 'S spoštovanjem,', the signature with the printed name, and a list of attachments ('Priloge:').
3Which curriculum vitae format is standard across the European Union, including Slovenia, for presenting vocational qualifications, work experience, and language proficiencies transparently?
A.A functional (skills-based) CV
B.A cover letter (spremno pismo)
C.The Europass CV
D.A letter of reference (priporočilo)

B.To list the technical specifications of the product for a sales catalogue
C.To record who used the device, when, and which faults occurred
D.To guide the user step by step through safe use, with clear warnings
Explanation: Instructions for use (navodila za uporabo) are a directive (instructive) text: they tell the user how to assemble, operate, maintain and troubleshoot a product safely, using imperatives, numbered steps in the right order, and prominent safety warnings.
5Which style is appropriate when writing an official record of a workplace accident (zapisnik o delovni nezgodi)?
A.Objective, factual and neutral, with exact times, places and the people involved
B.Persuasive, stressing who was to blame so that responsibility is clear to everyone
C.Vivid and narrative, so that readers can imagine how the accident felt
D.Brief and general, leaving out names and times to protect those involved
Explanation: A zapisnik is an official record, so it must be objective, factual and verifiable (stvarno in nevtralno): it states what happened, when and where, who was involved and what witnesses said, without opinions, emotional language or speculation about blame.
6In formal written Slovene, how is the abbreviation of 'družba z omejeno odgovornostjo' (limited liability company) written after a company name?
A.In capitals without periods: DOO
B.In lower case with periods: d. o. o.
C.In capitals with periods: D. O. O.
D.In lower case with slashes: d/o/o
Explanation: The abbreviation of 'družba z omejeno odgovornostjo' is written in lower case with a period after each shortened word: 'd. o. o.' (Slovenski pravopis spaces the parts). The closed form 'd.o.o.' is also widely used in company names.

B.The product's catalogue description and a copy of the seller's general terms of business
C.Invoice number and date, a precise description of the defect, and the remedy requested
D.A comparison with competitors' prices and a request for a discount on future orders
Explanation: A reklamacija should identify the purchase (invoice or delivery note number and date), describe exactly what is wrong with the goods, and state what the buyer asks for, such as repair, replacement, a price reduction or withdrawal from the contract.
8What is the communicative function of an executive summary (*povzetek*) placed at the beginning of an extensive technical or project report?

B.To acknowledge funding sponsors and dedicate the work to personal acquaintances
C.To list raw data tables and source code listings before the introductory chapter
D.To give decision-makers a short overview of the problem, findings and recommendations
Explanation: An executive summary (izvršni povzetek) condenses a multi-page technical report into a standalone brief highlighting the core problem, analytical methods, key findings, and practical recommendations for decision-makers who do not read the full document.
9Which grammatical case in standard Slovene must be used with the preposition 'zaradi' to indicate a cause or reason (e.g., 'Zaradi _______ je bil postopek ustavljen')?

B.Dative case (dajalnik: 'zaradi tehnični okvari')
C.Instrumental case (orodnik: 'zaradi s tehnično okvaro')
D.Locative case (mestnik: 'zaradi o tehnični okvari')
Explanation: In standard Slovene grammar, the preposition 'zaradi' (indicating cause or reason) strictly governs the genitive case (rodilnik): 'zaradi tehnične okvare' (due to a technical fault).
10What is the difference between an inquiry (*povpraševanje*) and an offer (*ponudba*) in commercial transactions?
A.An inquiry is the seller's price list; an offer is the buyer's request for prices
B.An inquiry is the buyer's request for prices and terms; an offer is the seller's stated prices and conditions
C.An inquiry is the buyer's firm order; an offer is the seller's confirmation of that order
D.An inquiry is a complaint about delivered goods; an offer is the seller's proposed remedy
Explanation: In commercial correspondence, an inquiry (povpraševanje) comes from a potential buyer asking about goods, prices, availability and terms. The seller answers with an offer (ponudba), which states the goods, prices, payment and delivery conditions and how long the offer is valid. An order (naročilo) follows if the buyer accepts.

About the Poklicna matura Exam

Poklicna matura is Slovenia's state school-leaving examination for secondary technical and vocational programmes, run by Državni izpitni center (RIC) with schools under the Matura Act (ZMat). Passing it gives a secondary technical qualification and access to higher vocational and professional higher education; with one additional Splošna matura subject, candidates can also enter most university programmes. The official exam combines written papers, oral exams and practical work with a defence. This independent OpenExamPrep resource is an English-language multiple-choice study adaptation covering Slovene language and literature, applied mathematics, English, and safety and quality basics. It is not an official translation, a simulation of the matura's format, or a substitute for the practical work or oral exams.

Exam sponsor: Državni izpitni center (RIC) and the State Commission for the Vocational Matura, with the Center RS za poklicno izobraževanje (CPI). The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Time Limit

Varies by subject. 2026 written exams: Slovene 60 + 60 minutes; mathematics 120 minutes; English 50 + up to 20 + 50 minutes; most second-subject papers 120 minutes. Oral exams up to 20 minutes after up to 15 minutes' preparation; fourth-subject practical work up to 8 hours (at most 7 per day) and defence up to 20 minutes.

Passing Score

Grade 2 or higher in all four subjects. The first subject is scored 2–8 points and the others 2–5, for an overall result of up to 23 points; so far at least 22 points has earned the certificate with distinction (zlati maturant).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the structure of the Poklicna matura in Slovenia?

Four subjects. The common part is Slovene (or Italian or Hungarian in nationally mixed areas) and the core vocational-theoretical subject of the programme. In the elective part the candidate takes mathematics or a foreign language, and a fourth subject consisting of practical work in the occupation, usually a product or service with an oral defence.

Can graduates of the Poklicna matura enroll in university programs?

The Poklicna matura gives access to higher vocational (višješolski) and professional higher education (visokošolski strokovni) programmes. To enter a university programme, candidates must also pass one Splošna matura subject; the required subject depends on the programme, and not every university programme accepts this route.

What is the passing score for the Vocational Matura?

At least grade 2 in each of the four subjects. The overall result is the sum of the subject results, from 8 to 23 points, because the first subject is scored 2–8 and the others 2–5. So far, 22 or more points has earned the certificate with distinction.

Does this practice bank replace practical or oral preparation?

No. The official exams are in Slovene (or Italian or Hungarian in nationally mixed areas), and the fourth subject requires real practical work and a defence before a school committee. This independent bank offers English-language multiple-choice questions for reviewing knowledge only.
