1What is the statutory engine power threshold that defines Category B self-propelled machines under Russian Gostekhnadzor licensing rules?
A.Engine power not exceeding 25.7 kW (approximately 34.9 hp)
B.Engine power up to 18.5 kW (approximately 25.0 hp)
C.Engine power between 25.7 kW and 110.3 kW
D.Engine power not exceeding 55.0 kW (approximately 74.8 hp)
Explanation: Article 15(1) of Federal Law No. 297-FZ defines Category B as tracked and wheeled machines with an engine power of up to 25.7 kW. Wheeled machines from 25.7 to 110.3 kW are Category C, wheeled machines over 110.3 kW are Category D, and tracked machines over 25.7 kW are Category E.
2Before starting and driving a compact tractor with an articulated chassis (such as the Belarus-132H), what mechanical device must be released or removed from the central articulation joint?
A.The hydraulic steering cylinder piston
B.The articulation joint locking bar (transport lock link)
C.The rear differential engagement pawl
D.The front axle oscillation stopper
Explanation: Articulated mini-tractors use a central hinge pin for hydraulic steering and rely on a rigid locking bar to immobilize the chassis halves during transport, lifting, or servicing. If this bar remains installed during machine operation, the steering mechanism cannot pivot, preventing any directional control and risking hydraulic cylinder damage. The operator must remove or unpin the locking bar and secure it in its storage position before driving.
3According to the official Category B tickets, when is a self-propelled machine prohibited from operation because of steering play?
A.When total play exceeds the manufacturer's values
B.When any steering play at all can be felt by the driver
C.Only when the play is greater than 45° in either direction
D.Never; steering play is not checked on Category B machines
Explanation: The official Category B tickets prohibit operating a self-propelled machine when the total play in the steering exceeds the permissible values set by the manufacturer. Steering tie-rod pins must also be secured with standard split pins.
4How must crawler track sag (slack) on a compact tracked machine or mini-excavator be checked during a pre-shift inspection?
A.By placing a 500 kg weight on the rear drive sprocket and watching the track
B.By driving at full speed in reverse and watching how the track moves
C.By applying full pressure to the blade cylinder while the machine moves
D.By measuring the sag above the middle roller on level ground
Explanation: Track sag is checked on firm level ground by measuring the gap above the rollers or against a straight edge between the sprocket and idler, and comparing it with the manufacturer's value. The official Category B tickets prohibit operating a tracked machine whose track sag is outside 35–65 mm, whose track links are cracked or broken, or whose left and right tracks have different numbers of links.
5When attaching a mounted agricultural implement to the three-point hitch of a Category B mini-tractor, what is the mandatory sequence for connecting the linkage arms?
A.Connect the left and right lower draft links first and secure them with linchpins, then connect the upper center link
B.Connect the upper center link first, lift the implement hydraulically, and then attach the lower draft links
C.Connect the PTO driveshaft first, start the engine, and then attach all three-point hitch pins
D.Connect the right lower link, then the top link, and leave the left lower link detached during transport
Explanation: Safety procedures require lower draft links to be hitched and pinned first while the implement is resting steadily on the ground. Once the lower links support the implement horizontally, the top center link is connected and adjusted to set the vertical pitch. Connecting the PTO shaft is performed only after all three hitch points are locked and the tractor engine is shut down.
6What is the primary safety requirement regarding the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft guard before starting the tractor engine?
A.The guard must be removed to allow visual inspection of shaft rotation speed
B.The protective safety shield and master PTO cover must be securely fastened in place
C.The PTO shaft must be wrapped in lubricating grease-soaked canvas
D.The PTO guard must be rotated by hand at 540 rpm before engaging the clutch
Explanation: The PTO shaft rotates at high speed (typically 540 or 1000 rpm) with high torque, creating an extreme entanglement hazard. Gostekhnadzor operating rules require the tractor master shield and the implement PTO driveline guards to be intact, securely fastened, and freely rotating relative to the internal shaft before the engine is started.
7According to the official Category B tickets, what is the maximum permitted difference in pressure between the left and right tyres of a self-propelled machine?
A.0.01 MPa
B.0.05 MPa
C.0.1 MPa
D.Any difference is allowed if the tyres are not flat
Explanation: The official Category B tickets allow a difference of no more than 0.01 MPa between the left and right tyres. A larger difference makes the machine pull to one side, brake unevenly and wear the tyres faster.
8When inspecting engine oil level on a cold diesel mini-tractor parked on level ground before starting, where should the oil mark appear on the dipstick?
A.Submerged past the upper crimp to ensure high reserve capacity
B.Just covering the bottom tip of the dipstick below the minimum mark
C.At any visible level as long as the low-oil warning light turns off after cranking
D.Between the MIN and MAX marks within the designated hatched operating zone
Explanation: The oil level must be verified before starting when oil has drained back into the sump. The level must sit between the minimum and maximum indicator markings. Operating below the minimum risks oil starvation and bearing seizure, while filling above the maximum can cause crankshaft foaming, elevated crankcase pressure, and oil ingress into cylinders.
9On mini-tractors equipped with split (independent) left and right service brake pedals, under what operating condition must the brake pedal interconnecting lock bar be coupled?
A.For road transport and faster travel, so both wheels brake together
B.When making sharp pivot turns at low speed in narrow field rows
C.Only when parking the tractor overnight on level ground
D.When ploughing heavy clay soil with a single-bottom plough
Explanation: Independent brake pedals allow operators to brake an individual inside wheel to assist with tight maneuvers at low working speeds in the field. However, during road transit or higher gear travel, the pedals must be securely locked together with the mechanical connecting link. Braking with split pedals at road speed would cause violent asymmetric yaw, sending the machine into a spin or rollover.
10What is the statutory minimum age for a candidate to be admitted to the Gostekhnadzor Category B qualification examination?
A.16 years old
B.17 years old
C.18 years old
D.21 years old
Explanation: Under Government Decree No. 796 (Item 11), the minimum age for admission to examinations for tractor-driver licences of Categories B, C, E, and F is 17 years old. Category A I allows 16 years, while Categories A II and A III require 19 years and Category A IV requires 21 years.
