About the Springboard (Level 2) Exam

The Pearson English International Certificate Young Learners - Springboard (Level 2) is a fun, stress-free English test for children aged about 8 to 10, set at CEFR level A1. It is the second of four Young Learners levels (Firstwords, Springboard, Quickmarch and Breakthrough) and is delivered by Pearson Edexcel, the largest UK awarding body. The test has two parts taken separately: a 60-minute written paper assessing listening, reading and writing through six tasks, and a 20-minute spoken test with an examiner and other children. The written paper contains 40 items worth 80 of the 100 score points, with the spoken test worth the other 20. Tasks One to Five use picture multiple choice, name-to-picture matching, question-and-answer matching, utterance-to-picture matching and gap fill, while Task Six asks learners to write short sentences. Results are reported as Pass, Pass with Merit or Pass with Distinction.
