1A teacher reads an excerpt from an educational policy report stating: 'Standardized testing provides administrative metrics, but formative assessment transforms classroom learning by actively involving students in identifying and closing their own learning gaps.' What is the central thesis of this statement?
A.Standardized testing is obsolete and should be replaced by classroom portfolios in every school.
B.Formative assessment improves classroom learning because it involves students in closing their own gaps.
C.Administrative metrics from standardized tests are the most reliable basis for improving classroom learning.
D.Students can only close their learning gaps after standardized test results have shown them precisely where those gaps lie.
Explanation: The central thesis contrasts administrative metrics with classroom learning, emphasizing that formative assessment drives meaningful learning by empowering students to actively identify and close their own learning gaps.
2In a pedagogical research article, an author argues: 'While socioeconomic background correlates with academic outcomes, school-level instructional quality and teacher expectations exert a decisive mediating effect.' What can be directly inferred from this statement?
A.School instructional quality and teacher expectations can substantially offset socioeconomic disadvantage.
B.Socioeconomic background has no measurable relationship with the academic outcomes of students.
C.Teacher expectations matter mainly for students from advantaged families, whose results are already high.
D.Because background correlates with outcomes, schools in poor communities cannot change achievement levels.
Explanation: The text indicates that instructional quality and teacher expectations act as decisive mediating factors, meaning effective pedagogical practices can significantly offset the negative correlations associated with socioeconomic disadvantages.
3A school planning document notes: 'All fifth-grade teachers must submit learning units by Friday. If a unit integrates transversal competencies, it must include explicit evaluation criteria for self-regulated learning.' Teacher Rosa submits a unit that does not include evaluation criteria for self-regulated learning. Assuming the rule was strictly followed, what must be true?
A.Rosa did not submit her learning unit by Friday.
B.The pedagogical committee rejected Rosa's learning unit.
C.Rosa's unit does not integrate transversal competencies.
D.Rosa's unit integrates transversal competencies but leaves out the criteria.
Explanation: The rule is a conditional: if a unit integrates transversal competencies (P), then it includes explicit criteria for self-regulated learning (Q). Rosa's unit lacks those criteria (not-Q), so, if the rule was followed, it cannot integrate transversal competencies (not-P). This valid inference is modus tollens.
4Consider the following statement from an educational essay: 'To educate is not to fill an empty vessel with encyclopedic facts, but to kindle an enduring curiosity that empowers the individual to interpret reality critically.' Which of the following authors' pedagogical perspectives aligns most closely with the philosophy expressed in this text?
A.Paulo Freire's critique of 'banking' education and his call for critical consciousness
B.Émile Durkheim's view of education as the methodical socialization of the young generation
C.B. F. Skinner's programmed instruction built on immediate reinforcement of correct responses
D.Johann Friedrich Herbart's formal steps for transmitting organized knowledge to the learner
Explanation: Paulo Freire famously formulated the critique of the 'banking concept' of education (educación bancaria), contrasting passive deposit-and-recall schooling with problem-posing, dialogical education that fosters critical consciousness.
5A passage on literacy acquisition states: 'Early reading comprehension is hindered when decoding requires conscious effort. Once phonological decoding becomes automatic, cognitive working memory is freed to focus on syntactic parsing and deep meaning construction.' According to this text, why is automatic decoding essential?
A.It eliminates the need for vocabulary instruction in primary grades.
B.It prevents students from ever making pronunciation mistakes during oral reading.
C.It frees limited cognitive working memory resources so they can be dedicated to understanding text meaning.
D.It guarantees that students will develop advanced critical thinking without further pedagogical intervention.
Explanation: The text directly states that automatic decoding frees cognitive working memory from the conscious effort of phonological translation, allowing those mental resources to be directed toward syntactic parsing and meaning construction.
6In a school with four secondary sections (A, B, C, D), the director observes that Section A has higher average reading scores than Section B. Section C has higher scores than Section D, and Section B has higher scores than Section C. Which section has the highest average reading score?
A.Section D
B.Section C
C.Section B
D.Section A
Explanation: Ordering the sections based on the given premises: A > B, B > C, and C > D. Chaining these inequalities yields A > B > C > D. Therefore, Section A has the highest average reading score.
7An article analyzing bilingual education in the Peruvian Andes notes: 'Subtracting the mother tongue in early schooling decelerates cognitive development, whereas additive bilingualism strengthens metalinguistic awareness and facilitates second-language acquisition.' What is the underlying assumption of the author's position?
A.A strong first language supports, rather than hinders, learning a second language.
B.Second-language instruction should be postponed until students are fully literate in their mother tongue.
C.Metalinguistic awareness develops only in children who learn two languages from birth.
D.Early schooling in Andean communities should be conducted entirely in the mother tongue.
Explanation: The argument favors additive bilingualism because it 'facilitates second-language acquisition'. That conclusion only holds if competence in the mother tongue serves as a foundation for the second language—the idea behind Cummins' linguistic interdependence hypothesis.
8Five teachers—Carlos, Diana, Elena, Fernando and Gabriela—sit in a row of five chairs numbered 1 to 5 from left to right. Carlos sits at one end. Diana sits immediately to the right of Carlos. Elena sits two chairs to the right of Diana. Gabriela does not sit next to Diana. Who sits in chair 3?
A.Fernando
B.Gabriela
C.Elena
D.Diana
Explanation: Diana must be immediately to the right of Carlos, so Carlos cannot be in chair 5; he is in chair 1 and Diana in chair 2. Elena is two chairs to the right of Diana, in chair 4. Chairs 3 and 5 remain for Fernando and Gabriela. Gabriela cannot be next to Diana, so she cannot take chair 3; she takes chair 5 and Fernando takes chair 3.
9A pedagogical coordinator reviews a text stating: 'Metacognitive prompting—asking learners to articulate why they chose a particular problem-solving strategy—significantly increases transfer to novel tasks.' What rhetorical strategy does the author use in this sentence?
A.A functional definition linked to a claimed learning benefit.
B.An anecdote about one teacher's classroom experience used as proof.
C.A circular statement that repeats its premise without adding evidence.
D.An appeal to authority citing an expert who endorses the strategy.
Explanation: The author provides a functional definition of metacognitive prompting (asking learners to articulate why they chose a strategy) and connects it immediately to a measurable learning outcome (significantly increasing transfer to novel tasks).
10In a grade-level cohort, 60% of students participate in the science club, 50% participate in the art workshop, and 20% participate in both. What percentage of students participate in neither activity?
A.10%
B.20%
C.30%
D.15%
Explanation: Using the principle of inclusion-exclusion for sets: P(Science ∪ Art) = P(Science) + P(Art) - P(Science ∩ Art) = 60% + 50% - 20% = 90%. The percentage participating in neither is 100% - 90% = 10%.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the official structure of the MINEDU Prueba Nacional for Nombramiento Docente?

In the 2024 Concurso de Ingreso, the Prueba Nacional had 75 three-option multiple-choice questions in two subtests: Habilidades Generales (25 questions, 2 points each, 50 points) and Conocimientos Pedagógicos, Curriculares y Disciplinares de la Especialidad (50 questions, 3 points each, 150 points). The maximum score is 200 points and the time limit is 3 hours and 45 minutes.

What score is required to pass the Prueba Nacional?

Candidates must obtain at least 84 points (28 correct answers) in the pedagogical subtest and at least 110 points in total to advance to the Etapa Descentralizada. Habilidades Generales has no separate minimum, but its points count toward the 110-point total.

How much does it cost to register for the Nombramiento Docente exam?

Registration is voluntary and free of charge, as established in the concurso's norma técnica (RVM N° 037-2024-MINEDU for the 2024 edition).

How does this exam relate to Contratación Docente (teacher contracting)?

Teacher contracting has no separate national exam. Under D.S. N° 022-2025-MINEDU, the 2026 contracting process starts with contract renewal, then contracts candidates using the merit lists from the Prueba Nacional of the most recent Concurso de Ingreso, and only then uses an evaluation of files (evaluación de expedientes) for any remaining vacancies.

What language is the official examination administered in?

The official Prueba Nacional is administered in Spanish. Candidates for Educación Intercultural Bilingüe vacancies must also meet the language requirements for those posts, such as registration in the Registro Nacional de Docentes Bilingües de Lenguas Originarias. This practice bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation.

What happens after passing the Prueba Nacional?

Candidates who reach the minimum scores move to the Etapa Descentralizada, where evaluation committees assess pedagogical competence (observation of a learning activity with rubrics, plus an interview) and professional trajectory (a valuation matrix), and verify the requirements before merit lists are drawn up.
