1A sixth-grade teacher presents students with a challenge: 'Design a water-filtration prototype using sand, gravel, charcoal, and cotton to purify contaminated runoff from the school patio.' During the activity, the teacher observes that one group's filter discharges murky water. What is the teacher's most appropriate pedagogical intervention to promote reflective feedback?
A.Tell the group that their charcoal layer is too thin and that they should add five more centimeters before retesting.
B.Rebuild the filter in front of the group so they can see the correct order of the layers.
C.Show the group a photo of a working filter and ask them to copy its layer order exactly.
D.Ask the group how their water differs from other groups' and how the order of their layers might explain it.
Explanation: Asking students to compare results and relate them to how they arranged the layers guides them to analyze their own design and find the cause of the problem. In MINEDU's observation rubric, this is feedback by discovery or reflection, the highest level.
2In a secondary mathematics class, a teacher wants to assess the competence 'Resuelve problemas de cantidad'. Which task demands the highest level of cognitive demand (alta demanda cognitiva)?
A.Comparing two family savings plans under inflation and justifying the better one mathematically.
B.Solving twenty exercises that calculate the 18% IGV on different prices with the same memorized formula.
C.Stating the definition of percentage and giving three examples from the textbook.
D.Copying the consumer price index graph from the newspaper and labeling its axes.
Explanation: Analyzing complex, non-algorithmic family budget scenarios under varying macroeconomic variables requires students to model relationships, integrate proportional reasoning, evaluate financial trade-offs, and justify conclusions mathematically, defining high cognitive demand.
3A fifth-grade teacher wants to activate students' prior knowledge (saberes previos) before starting a history unit on Pre-Inca hydraulic engineering (such as the puquios of Nazca and waru waru of the Altiplano). Which strategy is most effective?
A.Asking how families here manage water in dry seasons and how ancient peoples might have done it
B.Giving a 20-question pre-test that uses the technical terms of the unit
C.Presenting a 45-minute overview of the main dates, sites and archaeological findings of the period
D.Having students read the textbook chapter on the topic silently before discussing it
Explanation: Effective activation of prior knowledge invites students to retrieve experiential conceptions, local ancestral practices, and intuitive hypotheses about water management, establishing cognitive anchors (subsumers) for new historical concepts.
4During a unit on biological diversity, a student asserts: 'Fungi are plants because they grow out of the soil and have no eyes or legs.' What teacher action is most aligned with generating a productive cognitive conflict (conflicto cognitivo)?
A.Explain that fungi form their own kingdom, separate from plants, and list the kingdoms on the board.
B.Praise the creative reasoning and move on so the student's confidence is not affected.
C.Ask: 'Plants make food with sunlight; can a mushroom growing in a dark cave be a plant?'
D.Ask the class to vote on whether fungi are plants and then reveal the correct answer.
Explanation: Cognitive conflict arises when students face evidence that contradicts their idea. Pointing out that plants make their own food with light while fungi grow in darkness and absorb organic matter challenges the 'grows in soil = plant' idea and pushes the student to rethink the classification.
5A teacher wishes to scaffold students' ability to construct scientific explanations using the Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) framework. Applying Vygotskian scaffolding (andamiaje), how should the teacher sequence instruction over several weeks?
A.Model a claim–evidence–reasoning answer, then use group sentence frames, then fade them for solo writing.
B.Ask students to write full scientific explanations from the first week and help only those who request it.
C.Give students a fixed template to fill in for every explanation they write throughout the term.
D.Assign readings of scientific articles and have students identify the claim, evidence and reasoning on their own.
Explanation: Effective scaffolding begins with high teacher modeling and shared collective construction, progresses to guided collaborative practice with temporary structural scaffolds (sentence frames), and systematically fades supports until learners achieve autonomous mastery.
6A secondary teacher notices that several students experience severe anxiety and freeze during oral presentations. To foster socio-emotional self-regulation and positive classroom climate, which pedagogical strategy is most advisable?
A.Have anxious students present first, so they face their fear quickly and get it over with.
B.Exempt anxious students from oral presentations for the rest of the year.
C.Lower the grade of students who visibly lose composure while presenting.
D.Build up from pairs to small groups to the class, with feedback on content.
Explanation: Systematic desensitization and gradual socio-emotional scaffolding (pair sharing -> small group -> supportive class presentation) combined with anxiety regulation techniques builds emotional safety, self-efficacy, and communicative competence.
7In a fourth-grade reading session, a student correctly reads every word of a narrative passage aloud with rapid fluency, but when asked why the main character felt betrayed by her brother, the student cannot answer. What does this assessment reveal about the student's reading profile?
A.The student comprehends inferentially but still lacks accurate decoding.
B.The student needs more practice with oral reading speed and expression.
C.The student decodes fluently but does not yet comprehend inferentially.
D.The student is at an early stage of acquiring the alphabetic principle.
Explanation: The student exhibits fluent mechanical decoding (phonemic pronunciation and speed) without comprehension, highlighting that decoding accuracy is a necessary but insufficient condition for inferential meaning construction.
8A teacher wants students to develop autonomous metacognitive monitoring during independent mathematical problem-solving. Which self-questioning prompt should the teacher teach students to ask themselves DURING the execution phase?
A.'What grade do I think the teacher will give this work?'
B.'Is my strategy getting me closer to the answer, or should I try another?'
C.'Have I copied all the data and the question from the problem into my notebook?'
D.'How long will it take me to finish compared with my classmates?'
Explanation: Self-monitoring prompts during execution evaluate progress toward the goal, assess the effectiveness of the chosen strategy, and prompt strategic course corrections if necessary, which is the core of metacognitive control.
9A science teacher uses the POE strategy (Predict - Observe - Explain / Predecir - Observar - Explicar) in an inquiry session on thermal expansion. Why is the 'Predict' phase essential before students observe the physical phenomenon?
A.It makes students' intuitive ideas explicit so a contradicting observation can change them.
B.It allows the teacher to grade students on whether their first ideas were correct.
C.It checks that students have memorized the definition of thermal expansion before the experiment begins.
D.It replaces the need to carry out the observation if most predictions are correct.
Explanation: Formulating a prediction forces students to commit to and externalize their prior mental schemas. When the subsequent empirical observation contradicts that prediction, cognitive disequilibrium is triggered, motivating conceptual restructuring.
10In a secondary social science class, students study local deforestation. Instead of administering a standardized multiple-choice test, the teacher asks groups to conduct field interviews with farmers, loggers, and environmental officers, and present a town council briefing with sustainable land-use recommendations. What type of assessment does this represent?
A.Norm-referenced assessment
B.Authentic assessment
C.Diagnostic assessment
D.Self- and peer assessment
Explanation: Authentic assessment tasks evaluate competencies within realistic, situated contexts that mirror real-world professional and civic problems, requiring the integration of knowledge, inquiry skills, critical judgment, and collaborative action.

MINEDU Ascenso Docente: Suggested Study Strategy

1Practice identifying feedback by discovery or reflection in classroom scenarios: the teacher asks guiding questions instead of giving the answer or correcting the error directly.
2Distinguish high cognitive demand tasks (analyzing, modeling, justifying) from low-demand tasks (copying, reciting, routine procedures).
3Know your target scale's cut-off score: for example, 40 correct answers (60 points) are needed for the 4th scale.
4Study DUA: multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression, and the difference between reasonable accommodations and lowering expectations.
5Review the 2026 temario for your grupo de inscripción, which combines general pedagogical topics with area-specific didactics, and practice with the booklets of previous concursos.
