About the Lok Sewa Kharidar Exam

The Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa Aayog) of Nepal runs open and inclusive competitions for Kharidar (Non-Gazetted Second Class) posts in the non-technical Justice, Foreign, Administration, Audit and Parliament Services. Selection starts with a 50-question multiple-choice screening test of General Knowledge and the Basic Office Skills Test (BOST), followed by two subjective papers, a computer skill test and an interview. Question papers are set in Nepali, and answers may be written in Nepali, English or both. This bank is independent practice by OpenExamPrep: an English-language MCQ study adaptation of the Stage I syllabus content, with some Stage II revision items. It is not an official translation and does not simulate the subjective papers, the computer test or the interview.

Exam sponsor: Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa Aayog), Central, Provincial and Regional Offices, Nepal. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Lok Sewa Kharidar: Suggested Study Strategy

1Pace Stage I at under a minute per question: 50 questions in 45 minutes leaves 54 seconds each.
2Practise every BOST test type under time pressure, especially verification, filing and coding, which reward speed and accuracy.
3Split General Knowledge revision evenly across the five official units; each carries 6 questions.
4For Stage II, learn office procedures such as registration (darta), dispatch (chalani) and note-sheet (tippani) drafting, and the basics of the Constitution of Nepal.
5Work arithmetic by hand, because calculators are not allowed, and skip questions you cannot narrow down to avoid the 20 percent deduction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the examination pattern for Lok Sewa Kharidar?

Stage I is a preliminary examination of 50 multiple-choice questions, 2 marks each (100 marks, 45 minutes, pass mark 45): 30 General Knowledge and 20 Basic Office Skills Test. Stage II has two subjective papers of 100 marks each, Paper II Office Management and Paper III a job-knowledge subject. The final stage has a computer skill test (10 marks) and an interview (30 marks).

What does the Basic Office Skills Test (BOST) cover?

BOST has ten test types: verification, completion, classification, analogy, filing aptitude, following instructions, numerical reasoning, coding and matching, analytical reasoning, and direction and distance. It tests quick, accurate clerical reasoning rather than memorized knowledge. Office procedures such as registration, dispatch and note-sheet drafting belong to the Stage II Office Management paper, not to BOST.

How does negative marking work in Stage I?

Twenty percent of a question's mark (0.4 of the 2 marks) is deducted for each wrong answer. Unanswered questions score zero with no penalty. Calculators are not allowed.

Do Stage I marks count towards the final merit list?

No. Stage I is a screening test only. Candidates must score at least 45 to reach Stage II, but the final result is based on Stage II and final-stage marks.

What educational qualifications and age limits apply?

Applicants need a secondary-level (SEE/SLC) pass from a recognized institution, as stated in the advertisement. They must be at least 18 and not over 35 on the last date of application, or up to 40 for women and candidates with disabilities; the upper limit does not apply to permanent civil servants.

Is this practice question bank an official publication of Lok Sewa Aayog?

No. It is independent practice by OpenExamPrep and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Public Service Commission of Nepal. It is an English-language MCQ study adaptation of the syllabus content, not an official translation, and it does not simulate the subjective papers or interview.
