1If a = 3i − 4j and b = i + 2j, what is the magnitude of the resultant vector a + b (مقدار المتجه)?
A.5 + √5
B.6
C.2√5
D.2
Explanation: Add corresponding components: a + b = (3 + 1)i + (−4 + 2)j = 4i − 2j. Its magnitude is √(4² + (−2)²) = √(16 + 4) = √20 = 2√5 ≈ 4.47.
2Expanding along the first row, what is the value of the third-order determinant whose rows are (1, 2, 0), (3, −1, 4) and (2, 0, 1) (محدد من الرتبة الثالثة)?
A.−11
B.9
C.−9
D.7
Explanation: With the first-row signs + − +: 1 × [(−1)(1) − (4)(0)] − 2 × [(3)(1) − (4)(2)] + 0 × [(3)(0) − (−1)(2)] = 1 × (−1) − 2 × (−5) + 0 = −1 + 10 = 9.
3The region bounded by the curve y = √x, the x-axis and the line x = 4 is rotated through 360° about the x-axis. What is the volume of the solid generated (حجم الجسم الناشئ من الدوران)?
A.16π
B.(16/3)π
C.8
D.8π
Explanation: For rotation about the x-axis, V = π∫ y² dx. Here y² = x, so V = π∫₀⁴ x dx = π[x²/2]₀⁴ = π × 16/2 = 8π cubic units.
4Given A = [[1, 2], [3, 0]] and B = [[2, 1], [1, 4]], what is the product AB (ضرب المصفوفات)?
A.[[4, 9], [6, 3]]
B.[[5, 4], [13, 2]]
C.[[2, 2], [3, 0]]
D.[[3, 3], [4, 4]]
Explanation: Each entry of AB is a row of A multiplied by a column of B: (1)(2) + (2)(1) = 4, (1)(1) + (2)(4) = 9, (3)(2) + (0)(1) = 6 and (3)(1) + (0)(4) = 3. So AB = [[4, 9], [6, 3]].
5If sin(θ) = 3/5 and θ is in the first quadrant, what is the exact value of cos(2θ) (حساب المثلثات)?
A.-7/25
B.24/25
C.7/25
D.16/25
Explanation: The double-angle identity for cosine in terms of sine is cos(2θ) = 1 − 2sin²(θ). Substituting sin(θ) = 3/5 gives cos(2θ) = 1 − 2(3/5)² = 1 − 2(9/25) = 1 − 18/25 = 7/25.
6Writing √3 cos θ + sin θ in the form R cos(θ − α), with R > 0 and 0° < α < 90°, gives which expression (المقدار أ جتا θ + ب جا θ)?
A.2 cos(θ + 30°)
B.2 cos(θ − 60°)
C.2 cos(θ − 30°)
D.4 cos(θ − 30°)
Explanation: R cos(θ − α) = R cos α cos θ + R sin α sin θ. Matching coefficients gives R cos α = √3 and R sin α = 1, so R = √(3 + 1) = 2 and tan α = 1/√3, giving α = 30°. Hence √3 cos θ + sin θ = 2 cos(θ − 30°).
7Using the compound-angle formula sin(A + B) = sin A cos B + cos A sin B, what is the exact value of sin 75°?
A.(√6 − √2)/4
B.(√6 + √2)/4
C.(√3 + 1)/2
D.(√6 + √2)/2
Explanation: sin 75° = sin(45° + 30°) = sin 45° cos 30° + cos 45° sin 30° = (√2/2)(√3/2) + (√2/2)(1/2) = (√6 + √2)/4 ≈ 0.966.
8A function is odd (دالة فردية) when f(−x) = −f(x) for every x in its domain. Which of the following functions is odd?
A.f(x) = x⁴ + x²
B.f(x) = cos x
C.f(x) = x³ + 1
D.f(x) = x³ − 4x
Explanation: For f(x) = x³ − 4x: f(−x) = (−x)³ − 4(−x) = −x³ + 4x = −(x³ − 4x) = −f(x), so the function is odd. The graph of an odd function is symmetric about the origin.
9What is the inverse function f⁻¹(x) of f(x) = (2x + 3)/5 (الدالة العكسية)?
A.f⁻¹(x) = (5x − 3)/2
B.f⁻¹(x) = (5x + 3)/2
C.f⁻¹(x) = 5/(2x + 3)
D.f⁻¹(x) = (2x − 3)/5
Explanation: Let y = (2x + 3)/5 and solve for x: 5y = 2x + 3, so x = (5y − 3)/2. Interchanging x and y gives f⁻¹(x) = (5x − 3)/2. Check: f(f⁻¹(x)) = (2 × (5x − 3)/2 + 3)/5 = 5x/5 = x.
10A particle moves in a straight line so that its displacement after t seconds is s = t³ − 6t² + 9t metres. At what times is the particle momentarily at rest (السرعة والعجلة)?
A.t = 2 s only
B.t = 0 s and t = 3 s
C.t = 1 s and t = 3 s
D.t = 1 s only
Explanation: The particle is at rest when its velocity is zero. v = ds/dt = 3t² − 12t + 9 = 3(t − 1)(t − 3), so v = 0 when t = 1 s and when t = 3 s.
