1In Arabic syntax (النحو العربي), what is the primary grammatical definition and function of the Absolute Object (المفعول المطلق)?
A.An accusative noun indicating the temporal or spatial boundary within which the action occurred
B.A cognate verbal noun (مصدر منصوب) derived from the same root as the governing verb to emphasize its meaning, specify its type, or indicate its number
C.A verbal noun mentioned to clarify the psychological motive or internal reason for undertaking the verb
D.An accusative noun that clarifies the physical posture or state of the subject or object during the occurrence of the verb
Explanation: The Absolute Object (المفعول المطلق) is an accusative verbal noun (مصدر منصوب) derived from the verbal root of the preceding verb. It serves three main grammatical functions in classical Arabic: emphasizing the verb (مؤكد لفعله), elucidating its manner or category (مبين لنوعه), or indicating the frequency of its occurrence (مبين لعدده).
2In the sentence 'سَافَرَ الطَّالِبُ إِلَى الجَامِعَةِ طَلَبًا لِلعِلْمِ', what is the exact syntactic role (إعراب) of the word 'طَلَبًا'?
A.Specification (تمييز منصوب وعلامة نصبه الفتحة الظاهرة)
B.Circumstantial Qualifier (حال منصوبة وعلامة نصبها الفتحة الظاهرة)
C.Causative Object (مفعول لأجله منصوب وعلامة نصبه الفتحة الظاهرة)
D.Absolute Object (مفعول مطلق منصوب وعلامة نصبه الفتحة الظاهرة)
Explanation: 'طَلَبًا' is an accusative verbal noun that answers the question 'Why did the student travel?' (لماذا سافر الطالب؟). It states the reason for the journey, so it is a Causative Object (المفعول لأجله).
3Which fundamental morphological and semantic difference distinguishes Specification (التمييز) from the Circumstantial Accusative (الحال) in Arabic grammar?
A.Tamyiz must always agree with its antecedent in gender and number, whereas Hal is permanently masculine singular
B.Tamyiz can only occur in verbal sentences, whereas Hal is restricted exclusively to nominal equational sentences
C.Hal is always in the genitive case through annexation (مجرور بالإضافة), whereas Tamyiz must always be in the nominative case (مرفوع)
D.Tamyiz is typically an invariable substantive noun (جامد) removing vagueness from a substance or relation, whereas Hal is typically a derived descriptive noun (مشتق) describing a transient condition
Explanation: In standard Arabic syntax, the core distinction lies in morphology and function: Hal (الحال) is typically a derived noun (مشتق) such as an active or passive participle that describes the transient state of the subject or object, whereas Tamyiz (التمييز) is predominantly an unaugmented or primitive noun (جامد) that eliminates semantic ambiguity from a preceding vague measurement, number, or relational nexus (إبهام الذات أو النسبة).
4In 'قرأتُ الكتابَ نصفَه', what is the grammatical function of 'نصفَه'?
A.توكيد معنوي منصوب (emphasis)
B.بدل بعض من كل منصوب (partial appositive)
C.نعت منصوب (adjective)
D.مفعول به ثانٍ منصوب (second object)
Explanation: 'نصفَه' names a part of the preceding noun 'الكتاب' and carries a pronoun referring back to it, so it is بدل بعض من كل. Like every تابع, it takes the case of the word it follows: 'الكتابَ' is accusative as a مفعول به, so 'نصفَه' is accusative.
5Under what condition is the Vocative noun (المنادى) classified as uninflected upon the sign of its nominative form (مبني على ما يرفع به في محل نصب)?
A.When it is accompanied by an affirmative oath particle (حرف قسم)
B.When it is an annexed noun (منادى مضاف) or quasi-annexed noun (شبيه بالمضاف)
C.When it is an unintended indefinite noun (نكرة غير مقصودة)
D.When it is a singular proper noun (علم مفرد) or an intended indefinite noun (نكرة مقصودة)
Explanation: In Arabic grammar rules governing the vocative (أحكام المنادى), the vocative noun is built upon the sign of its nominative form in the accusative position (يبنى على ما يرفع به في محل نصب) in two distinct cases: when it is a single non-annexed proper noun (علم مفرد, e.g., 'يا محمدُ') or an intended specific indefinite noun (نكرة مقصودة, e.g., 'يا رجلُ').
6What syntactic role does the noun 'صَبَاحًا' play in the statement 'اسْتَيْقَظَ العَامِلُ صَبَاحًا'?
A.Absolute Object emphasizing the verb (مفعول مطلق مؤكد لفعله منصوب)
B.Adverb of Time / Maf'ul Fih (مفعول فيه: ظرف زمان منصوب وعلامة نصبه الفتحة الظاهرة)
C.Causative Object stating psychological reason (مفعول لأجله منصوب)
D.Predicate of an implied copula (خبر لمبتدأ محذوف)
Explanation: The word 'صَبَاحًا' functions as an Adverb of Time (ظرف زمان), grammatically termed 'المفعول فيه'. It indicates the specific temporal period in which the action occurred, carrying the inherent semantic implication of the preposition 'in' (متضمن معنى في).
7In 'سِرْتُ والنيلَ', what is the grammatical function of 'النيلَ'?
A.اسم معطوف على الفاعل (a second subject joined by 'and')
B.مفعول به منصوب (direct object)
C.مفعول معه منصوب (object of accompaniment)
D.مفعول فيه: ظرف مكان منصوب (adverb of place)
Explanation: The واو here means 'along with' (واو المعية), not 'and': the Nile cannot march, so it cannot share the action with the speaker. An accusative noun after واو المعية that names what accompanied the action is the مفعول معه, so 'النيلَ' is مفعول معه منصوب.
8Which sentence writes the compound number correctly (العدد المركب من 13 إلى 19)?
A.اشتريتُ ثلاثةَ عشرَ كتاباً
B.اشتريتُ ثلاثَ عشرةَ كتاباً
C.اشتريتُ ثلاثةَ عشرةَ كتاباً
D.اشتريتُ ثلاثةَ عشرَ كتبٍ
Explanation: In the numbers 13 to 19 the first part (3–9) takes the opposite gender to the counted noun, while the second part (عشر / عشرة) agrees with it. Both parts are built on the fatha, and the counted noun is a singular accusative (تمييز منصوب). 'كتاب' is masculine, so the correct form is ثلاثةَ عشرَ كتاباً.
9In the classical Arabic style of warning (أسلوب التحذير), what is the syntactic analysis of the noun warned against, 'النِّفَاقَ', in the expression 'إِيَّاكَ وَالنِّفَاقَ'?
A.Corroborative verbal noun in the genitive case through hidden annexation
B.Appositive substitute in the nominative case for the separate pronoun
C.Direct object of an obligatorily omitted verb meaning 'avoid' or 'beware' (مفعول به لفعل محذوف وجوباً تقديره احذر)
D.Adverb of accompaniment governed by an expressed preposition
Explanation: In warning structures using 'إِيَّاكَ' followed by a conjunction (التحذير المعطوف), 'إِيَّاكَ' is a detached accusative pronoun functioning as the direct object of an obligatorily deleted verb (تقديره: أُحَذِّرُكَ), and the following noun 'النِّفَاقَ' is an accusative direct object of another obligatorily deleted verb (تقديره: وَاحْذَرْ النفاق).
10Which of the following words is a noun of preference (اسم التفضيل), as it would appear in 'العلمُ ___ من المالِ'?
A.نافِع
B.منفعة
C.نَفْع
D.أنفَع
Explanation: The noun of preference is built on the pattern أَفْعَل to show that two things share a quality and one of them has more of it: 'العلمُ أنفعُ من المال' (knowledge is more useful than wealth). 'أنفع' is on the pattern أفعل from the verb نَفَعَ.
