About the LC Technology Exam
Leaving Certificate Technology is the Irish senior-cycle design-and-make technology subject. Students study a mandatory core — design process; project and quality management; materials and production; communication and graphic media; ICT; structures and mechanisms; energy, electricity and electronics — and choose two of five options: Electronics and Control; Applied Control Systems; ICT; Manufacturing Systems; Materials Technology. Assessment is split equally between a school-based design project (artefact and folder/portfolio, 50%) and a terminal written examination (50%). The written paper assesses the core in Section A and the two chosen options in Section B; durations are 2 hours at Ordinary Level and 2.5 hours at Higher Level.
