Junior Cycle Spanish (Ireland) is a Common Level SEC/NCCA lower-secondary MFL exam for third-year students, broadly aligned with CEFR A1–A2. It develops communicative Spanish plus language and intercultural awareness. The final written paper is up to about 2 hours with an aural component (aural 35%); CBA 1 (Oral Communication) and CBA 2 (Student Language Portfolio) are completed during the cycle. The Assessment Task (10% in the specification) is not examined for the 2026–2028 sittings, when the SEC grade is based on the written exam only and students complete a minimum of one CBA. The 2017 MFL specification applies through 2028; a revised 2025 specification applies to first years from September 2026. 2026 JC entry fee €109 (medical card exempt); grade descriptors, not pass/fail.
