Key Facts: Érettségi Spanyol Exam

A current living-foreign-language subject assessed at CEFR B1 at középszint and B2 at emelt szint.

Középszint aligns with CEFR B1 (180 min written + 15 min oral, 150 points total).

Printed bilingual dictionaries are permitted exclusively during Part IV: Writing (Expresión e interacción escritas).

The exam is administered nationwide twice annually: the main spring session in May–June and an autumn session in October–November by the Oktatási Hivatal.

The Hungarian Érettségi Spanish Language exam is an official secondary school leaving qualification codified in 100/1997 Korm. rendelet and NAT 2020, featuring intermediate (B1, 180 min written + oral) and advanced (B2, 240 min written + oral) tiers, evaluated on a 1–5 scale with a 25% pass threshold.

Érettségi Spanyol: Suggested Study Strategy

1Master the contrast between pretérito indefinido and pretérito imperfecto: train with authentic narrative excerpts, identifying punctual temporal markers (de repente, el lunes pasado) versus habitual or descriptive markers (todos los días, mientras).
2Internalize the subjunctive triggers systematically: memorize the WEIRD categories (Wishes, Emotions, Impersonal expressions, Requests/Recommendations, Doubt/Denial) and key conjunctions like 'para que', 'sin que', and 'a condición de que'.
3Pay special attention to the difference between 'por' and 'para': associate 'por' with causes, duration, means, and exchange, and 'para' with purpose, recipients, deadlines, and destinations.
4Practice double pronoun combinations: remember that when third-person indirect pronouns (le, les) meet direct pronouns (lo, la, los, las), 'le/les' converts into 'se' (e.g., 'se lo doy', never 'le lo doy').
5Beware of false friends (falsos amigos): words like 'constipado' (suffering from a cold, not constipated), 'embarazada' (pregnant, not embarrassed), and 'asistir' (to attend, not to help directly).
6Complete past papers from oktatas.hu under their published limits: 60 minutes for reading comprehension and 30 minutes for language in use at középszint.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the structure of the Hungarian Érettségi Spanish Language exam?

At the intermediate level (középszint / B1), the examination consists of a 180-minute written test divided into four sections: Reading Comprehension (Olvasott szöveg értése / Comprensión de lectura, 60 min, 33 pts), Language in Use (Nyelvhelyesség / Uso de la lengua, 30 min, 18 pts), Listening Comprehension (Hallott szöveg értése / Comprensión auditiva, 30 min, 33 pts), and Writing (Íráskészség / Expresión e interacción escritas, 60 min, 33 pts), followed by an Oral Examination (Beszédkészség / Expresión oral, 15 min, 33 pts, making 150 points total). At the advanced level (emelt szint / B2), the written examination lasts 240 minutes and is followed by a 20-minute oral examination.

What CEFR levels correspond to középszint and emelt szint in Spanish?

Középszint (intermediate level) corresponds to CEFR level B1 (independent user threshold), requiring practical communicative competence in everyday situations and mastery of core verb tenses. Emelt szint (advanced level) corresponds to CEFR level B2 (vantage), which demands sophisticated syntactic mastery, complex subjunctive clauses, nuanced vocabulary, and confident spontaneous spoken and written argumentation.

What are the passing criteria and grade boundaries for the Spanish Érettségi?

A candidate needs at least 25% overall. At középszint they also need 12% in the written part and 12% in the oral part; at emelt szint they need 12% in each of reading, language in use, listening, writing, and speaking. Középszint grades are 25–39% = 2, 40–59% = 3, 60–79% = 4, and 80–100% = 5. Emelt szint grades are 25–32% = 2, 33–46% = 3, 47–59% = 4, and 60–100% = 5.

Are dictionaries permitted during the Spanish Érettségi examination?

During both the intermediate (középszint) and advanced (emelt szint) examinations, printed bilingual dictionaries (spanyol-magyar / magyar-spanyol szótár) are permitted ONLY during Part IV: Writing (Íráskészség / Expresión escrita). Dictionaries are strictly prohibited during Reading Comprehension, Language in Use, and Listening Comprehension.

How are past tense choices (indefinido vs imperfecto vs pretérito perfecto) tested?

Past tenses are extensively tested in the 'Uso de la lengua' and 'Expresión escrita' sections. Pretérito indefinido is used for completed events in closed time intervals (ayer, el año pasado); imperfecto is used for habitual actions, ongoing states, and background descriptions; and pretérito perfecto compuesto is used for completed actions within an open time frame connected to the present (hoy, esta semana, nunca).

Where can official past Hungarian Érettségi Spanish exams and audio files be found?

All past examination papers, audio recordings, transcripts, and official marking schemes (javítási-értékelési útmutató) from 2005 to the present are freely downloadable from the official website of the Oktatási Hivatal at oktatas.hu.
