Key Facts: Érettségi Olasz Exam

A current living-foreign-language subject assessed at CEFR B1 at középszint and B2 at emelt szint.

Középszint aligns with CEFR B1 (180 min written + 15 min oral, 150 points total).

Emelt szint assesses CEFR B2 (240 min written + 20 min oral, 150 points total); higher-education programmes set their own current admission rules.

The exam is administered nationwide each May–June by the Oktatási Hivatal, with an autumn session in October–November.

Érettségi Olasz: Suggested Study Strategy

1Master the distinction between passato prossimo and imperfetto through targeted sentence pairing: identify triggers like 'mentre' (habitual/continuous) versus 'all'improvviso' or 'un giorno' (punctual/completed).
2Memorize past participle agreement rules: auxiliary 'essere' always requires gender and number agreement with the subject, whereas 'avere' requires agreement ONLY when preceded by third-person direct pronouns (lo, la, li, le) or the partitive 'ne'.
3Drill double pronoun transformations: practice changing 'mi + lo' to 'me lo', 'ti + la' to 'te la', and third-person combinations to 'glielo', 'gliela', 'glieli', 'gliele', remembering that 'glielo' serves both masculine and feminine indirect recipients.
4Review the triggers for the subjunctive mood (congiuntivo): memorize conjunctions that always require the subjunctive (prima che, benché, sebbene, affinché, a meno che non) and verbs expressing doubt, desire, opinion, or emotion.
5Expand topic-based vocabulary in themes such as daily routines, culinary traditions, tourism and transportation, school life, environmental issues, and digital technology.
6Complete authentic past papers from oktatas.hu under their published limits: 60 minutes for reading comprehension and 30 minutes for language in use at középszint.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the structure of the Hungarian Érettségi Italian Language exam?

At the intermediate level (középszint / B1), the examination consists of a 180-minute written test divided into four sections: Reading Comprehension (60 min, 33 pts), Language in Use (30 min, 18 pts), Listening Comprehension (30 min, 33 pts), and Writing (60 min, 33 pts), followed by an Oral Examination (15 min, 33 pts, making 150 points total). At the advanced level (emelt szint / B2), the written examination lasts 240 minutes and is followed by a 20-minute oral examination.

What CEFR levels correspond to középszint and emelt szint in Italian?

Középszint (intermediate level) corresponds to CEFR level B1 (independent user threshold). Emelt szint (advanced level) corresponds to CEFR level B2 (vantage), which entails higher grammatical sophistication, knowledge of the subjunctive and conditional moods, complex clause structure, and formal register.

What are the passing criteria and grade boundaries for the Italian Érettségi?

A candidate needs at least 25% overall. At középszint they also need 12% in the written part and 12% in the oral part; at emelt szint they need 12% in each of reading, language in use, listening, writing, and speaking. Középszint grades are 25–39% = 2, 40–59% = 3, 60–79% = 4, and 80–100% = 5. Emelt szint grades are 25–32% = 2, 33–46% = 3, 47–59% = 4, and 60–100% = 5.

Are dictionaries permitted during the Italian Érettségi examination?

During the written examination at középszint and emelt szint, printed bilingual dictionaries (olasz-magyar / magyar-olasz kéziszótár) are permitted ONLY during the Writing (Íráskészség / Produzione scritta) section. They are strictly prohibited during Reading Comprehension, Language in Use, and Listening Comprehension.

How are past tense choices (passato prossimo vs imperfetto) tested?

The exam heavily tests aspectual distinctions in the 'Nyelvhelyesség' and 'Íráskészség' sections. Passato prossimo is used for pinpointed, completed events or actions with defined temporal limits, while imperfetto describes ongoing habitual states, concurrent background actions (often with 'mentre'), physical/psychological descriptions, and continuous past states.

Where can official past Hungarian Érettségi Italian exams be found?

All previous official examination papers, audio recordings, transcripts, and marking keys (javítási-értékelési útmutató) from 2005 to the present are freely available in the official archives of the Oktatási Hivatal at oktatas.hu.
