About the Bac STD2A Exam
The STD2A baccalaureate (Sciences et technologies du design et des arts appliques) is the French technological track for students drawn to design and craft. In terminale, students sit two coefficient-16 speciality exams: Analyse et methodes en design (AMD), a 4-hour written and graphic paper, and Conception et creation en design et metiers d'art (CCDMA), a 4-hour practical exam. The AMD paper asks candidates to analyse a thematic corpus of documents (images, texts, objects, spaces) and produce a note de synthese combining a written commentaire compare with analytical sketches, mobilising knowledge of design history, art history and technique. Teaching is organised around poles such as 'arts, techniques et civilisations', 'demarche creative', 'arts visuels' and 'technologies', within a project-based method. The track prepares students for the DN MADE and art schools. Although a design track, its terminal exams are demanding analytical and creative papers rather than multiple-choice tests.

What is the note de synthese in the AMD exam?
Candidates analyse a thematic corpus of documents and produce a note de synthese that articulates a written commentaire compare with analytical sketches (croquis analytiques), mobilising design and art-history references.
