1Complete the sentence with the correct presente de indicativo form: «Yo no ___ nada de este tema.» (saber)
A.
B.sabo
C.sepo
D.sabío
Explanation: Saber has an irregular first-person singular in the presente de indicativo: sé (sé, sabes, sabe, sabemos, sabéis, saben). The written accent distinguishes it from the reflexive pronoun se.
2Choose the correct verb form: «Ayer nosotros ___ al Museo del Prado.» (ir)
A.fuimos
B.íbamos
C.vamos
D.fuéramos
Explanation: «Ayer» marks a single, completed action in the past, which requires the pretérito indefinido. The first-person plural indefinido of ir is fuimos.
3Choose the correct form: «Mientras yo ___ el periódico, sonó el teléfono.» (leer)
A.leía
B.leí
C.he leído
D.leeré
Explanation: The imperfecto (leía) sets the ongoing background action that is interrupted by a completed action in the indefinido (sonó). This imperfecto/indefinido contrast is the core of Spanish past narration.
4In peninsular (Castilian) Spanish, which form is expected here: «Esta semana ___ el proyecto.» (nosotros / terminar)
A.hemos terminado
B.habíamos terminado
C.terminábamos
D.terminaremos
Explanation: Time expressions that include the present moment — hoy, esta semana, este mes, este año, ya, todavía no — take the pretérito perfecto in peninsular Spanish: hemos terminado.
5Choose the correct form: «Cuando llegué al cine, la película ya ___.» (empezar)
A.había empezado
B.ha empezado
C.empezaba
D.empezó
Explanation: The pluscuamperfecto (había empezado) expresses an action completed before another past action (llegué). The adverb «ya» reinforces this anteriority.
6Choose the correct futuro simple: «Mañana nosotros ___ hablar con la directora.» (poder)
A.podremos
B.poderemos
C.podríamos
D.pudimos
Explanation: Poder has the irregular future stem podr-, so the futuro simple is podré, podrás, podrá, podremos, podréis, podrán.
7«—¿Qué hora es? —___ las tres.» Which form conveys 'It must be about three o'clock' (a guess about the present)?
A.Serán
B.Fueron
C.Eran
D.Sean
Explanation: Spanish uses the futuro simple to express probability or conjecture about the present: «Serán las tres» = 'It is probably three o'clock'. This is the futuro de probabilidad.
8Choose the correct condicional simple: «Yo ___ lo mismo en tu lugar.» (hacer)
A.haría
B.hacería
C.hiciera
D.haré
Explanation: Hacer has the irregular stem har-, so the condicional simple is haría, harías, haría, haríamos, haríais, harían. The conditional expresses a hypothetical action.
9What is the correct gerundio of «pedir»?
A.pidiendo
B.pediendo
C.pidendo
D.pediando
Explanation: Stem-changing -ir verbs of the e→i type change the stem vowel in the gerund: pedir → pidiendo (like servir → sirviendo, seguir → siguiendo).
10Complete: «Esta mañana he ___ tres correos electrónicos.» (escribir)
A.escrito
B.escribido
C.escribiendo
D.escribió
Explanation: Escribir has the irregular participio escrito. In compound tenses the participle after haber never agrees in gender or number.

About the Sachsen-Anhalt Abitur Spanish Exam

Sachsen-Anhalt Abitur Spanisch is the state Abitur examination in the Fremdsprache Spanisch, taken as a fortgeführte Fremdsprache at grundlegendes or erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau. Following the Fachlehrplan Spanisch Gymnasium (LISA, 01.08.2022), it assesses funktionale kommunikative Kompetenz (Hörverstehen/Hörsehverstehen, Leseverstehen, Sprechen, Schreiben, Sprachmittlung), interkulturelle kommunikative Kompetenz, Text- und Medienkompetenz, Sprachbewusstheit and Sprachlernkompetenz across eight prescribed Themenblöcke, targeting GER/CEFR level B2 by the end of Sekundarstufe II. The written examination itself covers only two of these competence areas directly — Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen and Sprachmittlung — with a Hörverstehen component due to start in 2027. This free 100-question MCQ bank trains the underlying language system and content knowledge behind that exam: subjuntivo and other verb forms, the ser/estar and por/para distinctions that are hallmarks of Spanish grammar, idiomatic and thematic vocabulary, reading comprehension, the logic of Sprachmittlung as a task, and Landeskunde on Spain and Hispanoamérica. It is an English-language study adaptation, not an official-format simulation, and it does not train listening, speaking or the extended written production the real exam requires.

Exam sponsor: Ministerium für Bildung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt (MB), with the Landesinstitut für Schulqualität und Lehrerbildung (LISA) and the Landesschulamt. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Assessment

Official written Abitur examination in the Fremdsprache Spanisch under the Oberstufenverordnung Sachsen-Anhalt, taken at grundlegendes (gA) or erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau (eA). Candidates receive two Prüfungsteile together: Prüfungsteil 1, 'Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen', offers a choice between two Wahlthemen — one built on a literary text, one on a non-literary text, drawn from the four officially designated Themenfelder for the 2026 session (España — la posición del Estado español en Europa; Tendencias globales; La vida de los jóvenes; Hispanoamérica). Prüfungsteil 2, 'Sprachmittlung in die Fremdsprache', is compulsory and requires mediating the content of German-language source material into Spanish for a defined audience. Both parts are answered in Spanish and each receives its own Teilnote. This 100-question bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation with genuine Spanish as the tested content — it does not simulate the official free-response format and is not an official translation of any exam material.

Sachsen-Anhalt Abitur Spanish: Suggested Study Strategy

1Treat ser/estar and por/para as the two grammar systems worth mastering completely — they generate more genuinely confusable exam questions than any single verb tense.
2Learn subjuntivo not as a list of endings but as a set of triggers: deseo, duda, emoción, valoración impersonal, finalidad, antecedente indefinido or negado, and conjunciones temporales/concesivas referring to the future.
3Practise Sprachmittlung with a real addressee in mind: decide what that person needs to know, then select, condense and explain in natural Spanish — never translate word for word.
4Cover all eight Themenblöcke, but give the four 2026 Themenfelder (España en Europa, Tendencias globales, La vida de los jóvenes, Hispanoamérica) the deepest soziokulturelles Orientierungswissen, since they anchor the reading/writing Prüfungsteil.
5Anchor grammar and vocabulary work in authentic short texts — news items, notices, statistics — because Leseverstehen tasks reward distinguishing explicit information, implicit meaning, fact and opinion.
6After MCQ practice, move to full official-format tasks — an extended Stellungnahme or Charakterisierung, and a real Sprachmittlung exercise from a German source — since MCQs build knowledge, not production skill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the official Sachsen-Anhalt Abitur Spanisch exam multiple-choice?

No. The official written paper has two parts, both answered in Spanish: 'Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen', an extended written response to a chosen literary or non-literary text, and 'Sprachmittlung in die Fremdsprache', a compulsory mediation task based on German-language source material. This bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation for learning and checking the underlying grammar, vocabulary and content — it is not a simulation of the official format and does not train listening, speaking or extended writing.

When is the written Spanisch exam in 2026?

Thursday 16 April 2026. The official schedule reads: 'Donnerstag, 16.04.2026: Abiturprüfungen in den Fremdsprachen Russisch, Spanisch, Italienisch, Latein und Griechisch.' Mündliche Prüfungen begin on 11 May 2026 and Zeugnisse are issued by 3 July 2026, with around 5,600 candidates sitting the 2026 Abitur in Sachsen-Anhalt across all subjects.

How long is the written exam?

The Gesamtarbeitszeit is 255 minutes at grundlegendem Anforderungsniveau (195 minutes for Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, including Auswahlzeit, plus 60 minutes for Sprachmittlung) and 285 minutes at erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau (225 minutes plus 60 minutes), per the fachspezifische Hinweise issued for the 2026 Prüfungsjahr. Permitted aids are a dictionary (mono- or bilingual) and a German spelling dictionary.

Which content areas does the exam cover?

The Fachlehrplan Spanisch Gymnasium (LISA, valid from 01.08.2022) prescribes eight Themenblöcke for the Qualifikationsphase: La vida de los jóvenes; El mundo de trabajo; El mundo de los medios; España — la posición del Estado español en Europa; Relaciones entre España e Hispanoamérica; Hispanoamérica; El individuo en la sociedad moderna; Tendencias globales. For the written exam's Schreiben-mit-Leseverstehen part specifically, four of these were designated as the binding Themenfelder for the 2026 session: España — la posición del Estado español en Europa, Tendencias globales, La vida de los jóvenes and Hispanoamérica. At least one Ganzschrift and one film must be studied across the four Kurshalbjahre.

Is there a listening (Hörverstehen) part of the written exam?

Not yet as of the 2026 Prüfungsjahr. Hörverstehen and Sprachmittlung are unaffected by the four Themenfelder restriction that applies to the reading/writing part, but a dedicated Hörverstehen Prüfungsteil for Spanisch and Italienisch is scheduled to begin only from the 2027 exam year onward.

Can I take Spanisch if I only started it in the Oberstufe?

Spanisch in Sachsen-Anhalt is generally offered as a fortgeführte Fremdsprache, continued from an earlier Schuljahrgang rather than begun from scratch in the Qualifikationsphase. Standard gymnasiale-Oberstufe admission rules apply, and at least one fortgeführte Fremdsprache or a Naturwissenschaft must be among your five Prüfungsfächer. Check your school's course offer and the current Informationserlass for the exact pathway available to you.

Is there an exam fee?

No. The Abitur is a state school examination in Sachsen-Anhalt and regular enrolled candidates pay no fee. External-candidate arrangements are handled by the Landesschulamt and are not a published Spanisch-specific fee.
