1Complete the sentence: "Penso che Marco ___ ragione."
A.abbia
B.ha
C.avrà
D.avrebbe
Explanation: Verbs of opinion such as pensare, credere and ritenere followed by che require the congiuntivo. The congiuntivo presente of avere for the third person singular is abbia: "Penso che Marco abbia ragione."
2Which form correctly completes: "Stasera vado ___ cinema con i miei amici."?
A.al
B.a il
C.del
D.nel
Explanation: Italian obligatorily fuses simple prepositions with the definite article (preposizioni articolate). a + il = al, so the correct form is "vado al cinema".
3Complete the periodo ipotetico: "Se io ___ più tempo, viaggerei in Italia ogni estate."
A.avessi
B.avrei
C.ho
D.avrò
Explanation: The periodo ipotetico dell'irrealtà (secondo tipo) uses congiuntivo imperfetto in the se-clause and condizionale presente in the main clause: "Se avessi più tempo, viaggerei…"
4Complete the unreal past conditional: "Se avessi studiato di più, ___ l'esame."
A.avrei superato
B.avessi superato
C.superavo
D.supererei
Explanation: In the periodo ipotetico dell'irrealtà nel passato, the protasi takes congiuntivo trapassato ("se avessi studiato") and the apodosi takes condizionale passato: "avrei superato l'esame".
5Choose the correct participle: "Le ragazze sono ___ al mare."
A.andate
B.andati
C.andato
D.andare
Explanation: With the auxiliary essere the past participle agrees with the subject in gender and number. "Le ragazze" is feminine plural, so the participle is andate.
6Complete the concessive clause: "Benché ___ stanco, Luca esce ogni sera."
A.sia
B.è
C.sarà
D.sarebbe
Explanation: Concessive conjunctions benché, sebbene, nonostante and quantunque always govern the congiuntivo. With a present main clause the congiuntivo presente sia is required.
7Complete with the correct subjunctive tense: "Volevo che tu ___ con me alla festa."
A.venissi
B.vieni
C.verrai
D.venivi
Explanation: The consecutio temporum requires that a past main verb (volevo) be followed by the congiuntivo imperfetto for a simultaneous or subsequent action: "Volevo che tu venissi con me."
8Complete: "Credevo che loro ___ già partiti quando ho telefonato."
A.fossero
B.erano
C.sarebbero
D.siano
Explanation: An action completed before a past main verb requires the congiuntivo trapassato: fossero + participio passato. "Credevo che loro fossero già partiti."
9Report the sentence "Arriverò domani" after a past introducing verb: "Mi ha detto che ___ il giorno dopo."
A.sarebbe arrivato
B.arriverebbe
C.arriverà
D.era arrivato
Explanation: In Italian indirect speech with a past introducing verb, a future in the original becomes the condizionale passato (futuro nel passato): "Mi ha detto che sarebbe arrivato il giorno dopo."
10Choose the correct tense: "Mentre ___ , è suonato il telefono."
A.studiavo
B.ho studiato
C.studierò
D.studiassi
Explanation: The imperfetto describes an ongoing background action interrupted by a punctual event in the passato prossimo. Mentre almost always introduces an imperfetto.

About the Saxony-Anhalt Abitur Italian Exam

Sachsen-Anhalt Abitur Italienisch is the state Abitur examination in the Fremdsprache Italienisch, usually begun as a second or third Fremdsprache in Sek I and continued at grundlegendes or erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau through the Qualifikationsphase. Following the Fachlehrplan Italienisch Gymnasium (Stand 01.08.2022) and the Einheitliche Prüfungsanforderungen in der Abiturprüfung Italienisch (KMK-Beschluss vom 01.12.1989 i. d. F. vom 06.06.2013), it assesses funktionale kommunikative Kompetenz (Hör-/Hörsehverstehen, Leseverstehen, Schreiben, Sprechen, Sprachmittlung), interkulturelle kommunikative Kompetenz, Text- und Medienkompetenz, Sprachbewusstheit and Sprachlernkompetenz across nine prescribed Themenbereiche, targeting GER/CEFR level B2 by the end of Sekundarstufe II. This free 100-question MCQ bank trains the underlying language system and content knowledge — real Italian for congiuntivo, periodo ipotetico, forma passiva, gerundio and Sprachmittlung, plus reading and Landeskunde — as preparation before students practise full official-format tasks. It is an English-language study adaptation, not an official-format simulation.

Assessment

Official written Abitur examination in the Fremdsprache Italienisch under the Oberstufenverordnung Sachsen-Anhalt, taken at grundlegendes (gA) or erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau (eA), and set jointly with Spanisch under the same 'Hinweise zu den schriftlichen Abiturprüfungen'. Prüfungsteil 1, Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, offers two Wahlthemen (one literary, one non-literary text; continuous or non-continuous), of which candidates choose and confirm one by signature. Prüfungsteil 2, Sprachmittlung in die Fremdsprache, is compulsory and based on one or more German-language texts that must be rendered into Italian for a stated purpose and addressee. Since the 2025 exam year, four Themenfelder per language underpin the literary/non-literary tasks in Prüfungsteil 1; a separate Hörverstehen Prüfungsteil is being introduced only from 2027 onward. This 100-question bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation with genuine Italian as the tested content — it does not simulate the official free-response writing task or the German-to-Italian Sprachmittlung task, and it is not an official translation of any exam material.

Time Limit

Written main date: Thursday 16 April 2026, together with Spanisch, Russisch, Latein and Griechisch. Prüfungsteil 1 (Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, including Auswahlzeit) takes 195 minutes at gA or 225 minutes at eA; Prüfungsteil 2 (Sprachmittlung) takes 60 minutes at both levels; Gesamtarbeitszeit is 255 minutes (gA) or 285 minutes (eA). Permitted Hilfsmittel are a bilingual and a monolingual Italian dictionary plus a German spelling dictionary. Mündliche Prüfungen begin on 11 May 2026; Zeugnisse are issued by 3 July 2026. Oral exams allow 20 minutes Vorbereitungszeit (§31 Abs. 2 Oberstufenverordnung).

Passing Score

Subject performance is reported on the 0–15 Punkte scale. The Gesamtqualifikation requires at least 200 of a possible 600 points in Block I (§38 Oberstufenverordnung) and at least 100 of a possible 300 points in Block II, formed from the five Prüfungsfächer at 4x weighting (§39), giving a maximum of 900 points. Block II also requires at least 4 points per element, at least 20 points (4x weighted) in at least three Prüfungsfächer including at least one eA-Fach, and no Prüfungsfach graded 0. The KMK table converts the total into the Durchschnittsnote, with about 300 of 900 points corresponding to the minimum 4.0. Within Prüfungsteil 1 and Prüfungsteil 2, unrounded Teilnoten are combined according to the Prüfungsteile's weighting to form the Prüfungsnote.

Exam / Certification Fees

No exam fee for regular enrolled school candidates; the Abitur is a state school examination administered by the Ministerium für Bildung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt. Arrangements for external candidates are handled by the Landesschulamt and are not a published Italienisch subject fee.

Saxony-Anhalt Abitur Italian: Suggested Study Strategy

1Master the congiuntivo trigger list first (opinion, will, emotion, impersonal expressions, benché/sebbene) — it underlies periodo ipotetico, discorso indiretto and concessive clauses alike.
2Treat il passato remoto as receptive knowledge: you need to recognise it in literary Wahlthema texts, but the Fachlehrplan does not require you to produce it fluently.
3Practise Sprachmittlung as a skill in its own right: read the German source, decide what your Italian addressee actually needs, then select and render it in Italian — never translate word for word.
4Build one vocabulary set per 2026 Themenfeld (Il mondo è in pericolo?, Le sfide dei giovani, L'uomo nella società, Il mondo del lavoro) rather than learning words in isolation.
5Keep a running falsi amici list (camera, morbido, parenti, firma, libreria) — these cost marks in both Leseverstehen and Sprachmittlung, where content accuracy is graded.
6After MCQ practice, move to full official-format tasks — an extended Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen response and a real Sprachmittlung exercise — because MCQs build knowledge, not production skill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the official Sachsen-Anhalt Abitur Italienisch exam multiple-choice?

No. The official written paper has two parts: Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, an extended written response to one of two chosen Wahlthemen, and the compulsory Sprachmittlung, which mediates German-language source material into Italian. This bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation that keeps genuine Italian as the tested content — it is not an official-format simulation and not an official translation of exam material.

When is the written Italienisch exam in 2026?

Thursday 16 April 2026, the same date as Spanisch, Russisch, Latein and Griechisch. Mündliche Prüfungen begin on 11 May 2026 and Zeugnisse are issued by 3 July 2026, with around 5,600 candidates sitting the 2026 Abitur in Sachsen-Anhalt.

How long is the written exam?

Prüfungsteil 1, Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen (including Auswahlzeit), takes 195 minutes at grundlegendem Anforderungsniveau or 225 minutes at erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau. Prüfungsteil 2, Sprachmittlung, takes 60 minutes at both levels. Total working time is therefore 255 minutes (gA) or 285 minutes (eA).

Does the exam include a listening test?

Not yet for the 2026 session. A separate Hörverstehen Prüfungsteil is being introduced in the modern foreign languages in Sachsen-Anhalt only from the 2027 exam year onward; the 2026 written paper consists of Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen and Sprachmittlung only.

Which content areas does the exam cover?

The Fachlehrplan Italienisch Gymnasium (Stand 01.08.2022) prescribes nine Themenbereiche across the four Kurshalbjahre of the Qualifikationsphase: Le sfide dei giovani, Ampliare gli orizzonti, L'uomo nella società, La famiglia italiana, La cultura italiana, Aspetti della società italiana, Il mondo del lavoro, Le sfide del mondo globale and Il mondo è in pericolo?. For the 2026 written exam, the Ministerium designated four of these as the Themenfelder underlying Prüfungsteil 1: Il mondo è in pericolo?, Le sfide dei giovani, L'uomo nella società and Il mondo del lavoro. At least one Ganzschrift and one film must also be studied.

What language level should I be at?

The Fachlehrplan targets GER/CEFR level A2 by the end of Schuljahrgang 8, B1 by the end of Schuljahrgang 10, and B2 by the end of Sekundarstufe II (the Qualifikationsphase), differentiated further between grundlegendes and erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau.

Is there an exam fee?

No. The Abitur is a state school examination in Sachsen-Anhalt and regular enrolled candidates pay no fee. External-candidate arrangements are handled by the Landesschulamt and are not a published Italienisch subject fee.
