About the Baupolier/in BP Exam
The Swiss Federal Professional Examination (Berufsprüfung) for Baupolier/in certifies senior construction site supervisors in the Swiss main construction industry (Bauhauptgewerbe) and leads to the protected title Baupolier/in mit eidgenössischem Fachausweis. It is run by the Schweizerischer Baumeisterverband (SBV) together with Infra Suisse, the SVBS, Baukader Schweiz, Unia and Syna under SBFI oversight, on the Prüfungsordnung of 20 June 2023 in force since 1 June 2023. The examination is competence-oriented and covers six competence areas: leading personnel, work preparation (AVOR), communication with external parties and within the team, operational management and control of construction objects, managing and securing site data and records, and developing work processes and competencies. This site's practice questions are an English-language multiple-choice study adaptation of that scope; the official examination is held in German, French and Italian and is not a multiple-choice test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the official Swiss BP Baupolier examination multiple choice?
No. The official federal examination has five parts: a 60-minute written Fragenmix that mixes closed and open questions, a 390-minute guided case study, a 120-minute in-tray and short-case paper, a 105-minute oral part and a 90-minute practical part. This question bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation of the underlying competencies, not a simulation of that format.
Which languages are official for the Baupolier examination?
The examination is run in German, French and Italian, and candidates state their examination language at registration. It is not offered in English, so this bank is an English-language study aid rather than an official translation.
How many candidates pass?
At the January 2026 sitting, 141 of 191 candidates obtained the federal certificate — a pass rate of 74% (SBV).
What is the fee for the examination and are federal subsidies available?
The examination fee is CHF 1,800 for the first sitting and CHF 900 for a repeat. Swiss federal subject financing (Subjektfinanzierung) reimburses up to 50% of preparatory course costs (up to CHF 9,500 for Berufsprüfungen) directly to candidates.
