About the IC&RC AADC Exam
The IC&RC Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (AADC) examination is the master's-level SUD-counseling credential within the IC&RC reciprocity network. Member Boards position it differently: in some jurisdictions it is the advanced credential a clinician earns after state licensure, and in others its examination score feeds the board's own advanced addiction-counselor credential. An updated blueprint took effect for candidates testing on or after March 16, 2026: the four domains were reweighted to Screening, Assessment, and Engagement 22%, Treatment Planning, Collaboration, and Referral 24%, Counseling and Education 30%, and Professional Responsibilities and Ethical Considerations 24%, and every task statement was reformatted into lettered topics. The exam is 150 questions (125 scored plus 25 pretest) in 3 hours, scaled 200-800 with a 500 passing cut, delivered by Prometric/IQT.
Exam sponsor: International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), with examinations developed, administered, and scored by Prometric through its ISO-Quality Testing (IQT) division. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.
