What is the CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) exam format?

The Level 1 Test is 55 multiple-choice questions (50 scored plus 5 unscored pretest items) with a 60-minute time limit for the English version (75 minutes for non-English versions). Effective April 1, 2025, the test is taken online, post-course, within 8 days of completing the 2-day Level 1 Certificate Course, proctored via Weblock on computers or LockDown Browser on iPads.

What is the CF-L1 passing score?

Candidates must answer 33 of 50 scored questions correctly (66%) on the English-language test, or 34 of 50 (68%) on non-English versions. These thresholds are published in the CrossFit Level 1 Participant Handbook test blueprint.

What happens if I fail the Level 1 test?

A mandatory 30-day wait applies between attempts. Candidates who sit and fail the test get two retest opportunities (three attempts total); candidates who opt out of testing at course time get three retest opportunities instead. Either way, you must pass within one year of your course attendance date, or you must reattend and pass the full 2-day Level 1 Course again.

How long is the CrossFit Level 1 credential valid?

Five years from the date of issue. Recertification requires reattending the full 2-day Level 1 Certificate Course and passing the Level 1 Test again — there is no continuing-education or abbreviated renewal path at the Level 1 level.
