12.1 Current Exam Facts, Official Weights & Study Mapping
Key Takeaways
The current exam presents 60 scored multiple-choice and multiple-select questions plus up to 5 unscored questions, allows 105 minutes, and requires a 73% passing score; the exam uses the Summer '26 (SU '26) release.
Registration is US $200 (JPY 30,000) plus taxes with a US $100 (JPY 15,000) retake, no prerequisites, and proctored delivery onsite or online through Pearson VUE, accessed through Trailhead Academy.
Current official weights are Salesforce Fundamentals 18%, Data Modeling and Management 20%, Business Logic and Process Automation 32%, User Interface 17%, and App Deployment 13% — the previously published 23/22/28/17/10 split is stale.
Business Logic and Process Automation is roughly one-third of the exam and deserves about one-third of total study time.
Chapters 1-2 plus Section 12.2 map to Fundamentals, 3-4 to Data Modeling, 5-7 plus 12.3-12.4 to Business Logic, 8-9 to User Interface, and 10-11 to App Deployment.
Current Exam Facts, Official Weights & Study Mapping
The official Platform App Builder exam guide on Salesforce Help is the single source of truth for exam logistics and content, and the facts in this section reflect the exam using the Summer '26 (SU '26) release, verified in October 2026. Printed books, practice-dump sites, and recorded courses routinely lag a blueprint behind, so anchor your plan to the current guide rather than to a colleague's memory of their own sitting.
Important
Verified exam facts: 60 scored multiple-choice and multiple-select questions plus up to 5 unscored questions that do not affect your results, 105 minutes, a 73% passing score, registration at US $200 (JPY 30,000) plus taxes, a retake at US $100 (JPY 15,000), no prerequisites, and proctored delivery onsite at a testing center or online through Pearson VUE, accessed through Trailhead Academy. Exam content aligns to the SU '26 release.
Exam Format & Logistics
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Scored questions | 60 multiple-choice and multiple-select questions |
| Unscored questions | Up to 5 extra questions that do not affect results |
| Time limit | 105 minutes |
| Passing score | 73% |
| Registration fee | US $200 (JPY 30,000) plus applicable taxes |
| Retake fee | US $100 (JPY 15,000) |
| Prerequisites | None |
| Delivery | Proctored onsite at a testing center or online, through Pearson VUE, accessed through Trailhead Academy |
| Exam release | Summer '26 (SU '26) release |
Unscored questions are indistinguishable from scored ones — they let Salesforce pilot new items, and there is no strategy beyond answering everything. With up to 65 presented questions in 105 minutes, you have roughly 1.6 to 1.75 minutes per question, which rewards practiced pacing over memorized trivia.
Tip
Sit at least one timed practice set of 65 questions before exam day. Train the clock as deliberately as the content: flag long scenario stems, answer them, and circle back.
Registration, Retakes, and Maintenance
Start booking from Trailhead Academy and follow its Pearson VUE registration flow. Salesforce moved exam delivery to Pearson VUE in July 2025; old Webassessor links are obsolete booking advice. Before an online appointment, run the provider's required system checks and review ID, workspace, accommodation, rescheduling, and cancellation instructions. No hard-copy or online references may be used during the exam.
Salesforce's retake policy permits three attempts at the same exam per release cycle: after the first failure, wait 24 hours before registering again; after the second, wait 14 days; after the third, wait until the next release cycle. The ordinary App Builder retake fee is US $100 plus applicable tax. Promotions have their own eligibility rules and do not replace the standard attempt limits. Follow the candidate's certification account for maintenance assignments and their actual deadlines; passing the initial exam does not remove ongoing maintenance requirements.
Use the Guide and Practice Bank
Open Platform App Builder practice after each topic. For targeted review, use relationship design, record-triggered Flow timing, and deployment validation. These are independent OpenExamPrep lessons. The question allocations above are rounded illustrations from the percentages, not a guarantee of the exact items presented on an individual exam.

Current Official Domain Weights
The current blueprint also reweighted the five domains, and the shift is large enough to change how you allocate effort. If your notes still carry the previously published 23/22/28/17/10 split, they are stale.
| Domain | Current Weight | Previously Published | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salesforce Fundamentals | 18% | 23% | Down 5 points |
| Data Modeling and Management | 20% | 22% | Down 2 points |
| Business Logic and Process Automation | 32% | 28% | Up 4 points |
| User Interface | 17% | 17% | Unchanged |
| App Deployment | 13% | 10% | Up 3 points |
Warning
The old 23/22/28/17/10 weights still circulate in the older exam-preparation material and in third-party courses that never refreshed. Cross-check any practice product against the current exam guide on Salesforce Help before trusting its weighting.
What Each Domain Now Tests
Reading the outline as clusters of objectives — not just percentages — tells you what kind of question each domain asks:
- Salesforce Fundamentals (18%): the declarative-versus-programmatic boundary; extending an org with AgentExchange; features that restrict or extend object, record, and field access; choosing the right sharing solution; and the features behind reports, custom report types, and dashboards.
- Data Modeling and Management (20%): selecting the right data model for a scenario; how relationship types affect record access, the UI, and reporting; considerations when selecting or changing field data types; and import and export options, including external data sources.
- Business Logic and Process Automation (32%): formula fields; roll-up summary capabilities and implications; validation rules; creating and configuring flows in Flow Builder; Flow approval process capabilities and use cases; choosing the right flow type; maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting flows; and using Agentforce to automate business processes.
- User Interface (17%): customization options; custom buttons, links, and actions; declarative options for adding Lightning components; programmatic options for custom Lightning components; and global and object-specific actions and layouts for mobile.
- App Deployment (13%): recommending an application lifecycle management approach, including sandbox types; change set knowledge, viability, and troubleshooting; unmanaged versus managed packages; and choosing an appropriate deployment plan.
Translating weights into scored questions (60 scored items): 32% is about 19 questions, 20% about 12, 18% about 11, 17% about 10, and 13% about 8 — together 60. Business Logic alone is worth roughly as many questions as User Interface and App Deployment combined.
Mapping This Guide to the Blueprint
Every current objective is covered somewhere in this guide. Use this map to convert a weak practice-exam area into a targeted reread:
| Blueprint Domain | Weight | Guide Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Salesforce Fundamentals | 18% | Chapters 1-2 (platform architecture and boundaries, security and access, reports and dashboards) plus Section 12.2 (AgentExchange) |
| Data Modeling and Management | 20% | Chapters 3-4 (data model choices, relationships, field types, import and export, external data sources) |
| Business Logic and Process Automation | 32% | Chapters 5-7 (formulas, roll-up summaries, validation rules, Flow, approvals) plus Sections 12.3-12.4 (Agentforce, Flow approvals, monitoring) |
| User Interface | 17% | Chapters 8-9 (Lightning App Builder, dynamic UI, record types, mobile actions) |
| App Deployment | 13% | Chapters 10-11 (ALM, sandbox types, change sets, packaging) |
Study-Time Allocation That Matches the Weights
Spend your preparation hours in roughly the same proportion as the weights. A 32% domain deserves about one-third of your study time. With a 30-hour plan, that means about 10 hours on Business Logic, 6 on Data Modeling, 5 to 5.5 on Fundamentals, 5 on User Interface, and 4 on App Deployment — roughly 30 hours total (a sample revision plan, not an official required preparation time), mirroring the blueprint.
Best Practices & Common Exam Traps
- Count up to 65 questions in your pacing plan even though only 60 are scored; unscored items are unmarked.
- 73%, not 65% or 70%, is the passing score — a favorite stale-fact trap.
- Budget for a possible retake: US $100 plus taxes, with no prerequisites to re-establish.
- Do not starve the smallest domain. App Deployment at 13% is still about 8 scored questions — often the easiest points on the exam for a well-prepared candidate.
A study group member shares a set of outdated notes and insists the exam still has 65 scored questions, 120 minutes, and a 65% passing score. Which set of current facts should the app builder correct them with?
60 scored questions plus up to 5 unscored, 105 minutes, and a 73% passing score
65 scored questions with up to 10 unscored pilot items, 120 minutes, and a 65% passing score
60 scored questions plus 10 unscored, 90 minutes, and a 68% passing score
55 scored questions plus 5 unscored, 105 minutes, and a 70% passing score
While preparing, an app builder sorts the five blueprint domains by their current official weights. Which weighting set matches the current exam guide?
Fundamentals 23%, Data Modeling 22%, Business Logic 28%, User Interface 17%, App Deployment 10%
Fundamentals 18%, Data Modeling 22%, Business Logic 32%, User Interface 17%, App Deployment 11%
Fundamentals 18%, Data Modeling 20%, Business Logic 32%, User Interface 17%, App Deployment 13%
Fundamentals 20%, Data Modeling 20%, Business Logic 28%, User Interface 19%, App Deployment 13%
Priya has 30 hours to prepare and wants her study time to mirror the official domain weights. Which allocation best matches the current blueprint?
6 hours Fundamentals, 8 hours Data Modeling, 10 hours Business Logic, 4 hours User Interface, 2 hours App Deployment
5 hours Fundamentals, 6 hours Data Modeling, 10 hours Business Logic, 5 hours User Interface, 4 hours App Deployment
3 hours per domain, then 15 hours of mixed practice exams spread evenly across all topics
15 hours Business Logic, 10 hours Data Modeling, and 5 hours across the other three domains
