Generally completed by teacher candidates in or graduating from a teacher education program; required before a general Certificate of Qualification and Registration is issued
Additional Requirements
  • Required for an Ontario general Certificate of Qualification and Registration (CQR)
  • Both the mathematics section and the pedagogy section must be passed in the same attempt
  • Applicants from an Indigenous-language teacher education program (Anishinaabek, Mushkegowuk, Onkwehonwe, Lenape) are exempt
  • Successful results are sent directly to the Ontario College of Teachers by EQAO

Number Sense and Proportional Reasoning~30%

Whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, and percents; operations and order of operations; ratios, rates, unit rates, and proportions; exponents; and estimation drawn from the Ontario Grades 3-9 Number strand, including both calculator and no-calculator items.

Algebra and Patterning~20%

Patterns and relations, algebraic expressions and equations, solving one- and multi-step linear equations, linear relations and slope, and the coding and computational thinking expectations integrated into the 2020 curriculum.

Spatial Sense and Measurement~15%

Two- and three-dimensional geometry, angles, perimeter, area and volume, metric measurement and conversion, the Pythagorean relationship, the coordinate plane, and transformations such as reflections and symmetry.

Data Management and Probability~10%

Collecting and representing data, choosing appropriate graphs, measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), range, and the probability of simple and compound events.

Financial Literacy~6%

Money concepts, budgeting with percentages, sales tax, income and deductions, and simple and compound interest, reflecting the financial literacy expectations embedded in the Ontario Number strand.

Pedagogy~30%

Foundational knowledge of the mathematics curriculum, assessment and evaluation practices (Growing Success), instructional strategies, and learning for all students, including differentiation, accommodations, and supporting diverse learners.
