40 hours of NY DFS-approved pre-licensing education, or 1 year of regular insurance industry experience in sales, underwriting, or claims within the past 3 years
Background Check
Fingerprints for a DCJS criminal history check (New York residents fingerprinted electronically through IdentoGO); records may also be checked by the FBI
Additional Requirements
  • •$1,000 bond made to the State of New York and filed with the Superintendent under N.Y. Ins. Law § 2108(l)
  • •Five certificates of character from reputable citizens of the applicant's community who have known the applicant for at least 5 years and are not related by blood or marriage (§ 2108(d)(3))
  • •Trustworthy and competent to act as an adjuster so as to safeguard the interests of the people of the state (§ 2108(c)(1))
