Can You Take the NFPT CPT Exam?

Additional Requirements
  • Agree to adhere to the NFPT Codes of Conduct at application
  • Pass the 120-question multiple-choice exam with 750/1000 or higher
  • Recertify annually with 2.0 CECs (10 contact hours) plus the renewal fee; from Jan 1, 2027 the cycle becomes 2 years and 4.0 CECs (20 contact hours)
  • CPR/AED certification is strongly recommended by NFPT and usually required by employers and insurers, but is not an NFPT certification requirement

Retake Policy

Up to two attempts within the one-year eligibility period, with a minimum 30-day wait after a failed attempt and a retest fee for the second try. After a second unsuccessful attempt the candidate must wait 18 months from the first exam date before re-applying to the program.
