What Is the GACE Elementary Education (P-5) (702)?

The Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Elementary Education (P–5) (702) is Georgia's content certification assessment for prospective elementary teachers of Pre-K through grade 5. It is administered by Evaluation Systems of Pearson on behalf of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Assessment code 702 is the combined Elementary Education (P–5) assessment that includes all five content testlets. GaPSC previously titled this P–5 field Early Childhood Education; the current certification field and Pearson assessment name is Elementary Education (P–5).

The Five Testlets

Official structure from Pearson (each testlet is 20% of the assessment score):

Each testing session also includes about 15 minutes for the tutorial and nondisclosure agreement. If you take all five testlets in one appointment, Pearson schedules a 15-minute break after the first three testlets. Math is the longest testlet (60 minutes); do not pace it as if it were a 45-minute block.

Fees (Pearson Fee Schedule)

Pearson publishes a flat fee—not the older ETS-era itemized registration/test-center split:

• $169 — register for all five Elementary Education (P–5) testlets together
• $34 — register for any single testlet (001–005) on its own

Total cost for a session depends on how many testlets you select in that registration. Confirm the current schedule on the official GACE site before you pay.

Scoring and Passing Standard

GACE reports scaled scores on a 100–300 scale. For the Elementary Education (P–5) (702) assessment you must:

1. Earn a cumulative assessment score of at least 220, and
2. Meet the floor (minimum required performance) on each individual testlet

There are not separate published passing scores for each testlet beyond the floor rule, but failing a floor fails the assessment even if the cumulative total looks high. Score reports include whether each testlet floor was met and performance details by objective. Banked testlet results combine toward your cumulative total; you can retake individual testlets after the waiting period.

Delivery and Scheduling

The 702 is computer-delivered. Register and pay through your account on gace.es.pearson.com, then schedule a Pearson VUE appointment. You may take any combination of the five testlets in a single session, including all five together. There are no constructed-response items on 702—every scored point comes from selected-response items. The on-screen interface lets you flag items for review and track time remaining within the active testlet.

Eligibility and Registration

GaPSC certification rules and your educator preparation program (EPP) determine whether you are eligible for Elementary Education (P–5). Complete eligibility steps required by GaPSC/your EPP, then create or use your Pearson GACE account at gace.es.pearson.com to register for 702 or individual testlets and schedule testing. Retake Policy

If you do not pass—whether because the cumulative score is below 220 or because a testlet floor was not met—you may retake after a 30-day wait. For testlet-based assessments you may retake any testlet (including one where you already met the floor) to raise the cumulative total. Re-register and pay the current per-testlet or combined fee for the testlets you schedule.

Why These Facts Shape Study Planning

Equal 20% weights mean you cannot ignore a weak subject. The official floor rule means you also cannot "average away" a collapsed testlet.
