Georgia MPJE Format, Logistics & Official Blueprint

The Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) is a standardized test administered by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). It evaluates your knowledge of pharmacy law and is required for licensure in Georgia, just as it is in most other states. The exam is uniquely tailored for each state, meaning the Georgia MPJE will test both federal laws and specific Georgia statutes and regulations. Understanding the exact format, the logistics of taking the exam, and the official competency blueprint is the first and most foundational step toward passing.

Exam Format and Computer-Adaptive Testing

The Georgia MPJE consists of a total of 120 multiple-choice and alternate-format questions. However, only 100 of these questions are actually scored and count toward your final result. The remaining 20 questions are "pretest" questions that the NABP is evaluating for potential use in future exams. You will not know which questions are scored and which are pretest questions, so you must treat every single question as if it counts toward your final score. You are allotted 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete the examination.

Crucially, the MPJE utilizes a computer-adaptive testing (CAT) model. This is very different from a standard linear exam where everyone sees the same fixed set of questions. In a CAT model, the testing software dynamically selects your next question based on how you answered the previous ones. If you answer a question correctly, the system will likely present you with a more difficult question next. Conversely, if you answer incorrectly, the next question may be slightly easier. The goal of the CAT system is to pinpoint your precise ability level with the fewest number of questions.

Because the exam is adaptive, you must answer every question in the order it is presented. You cannot skip questions, and you cannot go back to review or change an answer once you have submitted it. This requires a very deliberate pacing strategy; you must balance the need to think carefully about each question with the necessity of completing the entire exam within the 2.5-hour time limit. Failing to finish the exam will result in a penalty that significantly lowers your score.

The Official MPJE Competency Blueprint

NABP publishes official MPJE Competency Statements that are the current exam blueprint for administrations before March 1, 2027 (a new MPJE Content Outline takes effect on or after that date). The Competency Statements are organized into four weighted areas. Critically, NABP states that no distinction is made on the exam between federal and state jurisprudence questions—you must answer each item according to the prevailing laws of the jurisdiction in which you seek licensure (here, Georgia). Do not study from a made-up "40% federal / 40% state" split.

Area 1 — Licensure/Personnel (22%)

Expect Georgia Board structure, pharmacist licensure and 30-hour/2-year CE, intern and technician registration, supervision ratios under Rule 480-15-.03, impairment/discipline pathways, and Pharmacist-in-Charge responsibilities.

Area 2 — Pharmacist Practice (33%)

This is the largest area. Master valid prescription elements, controlled vs non-controlled issuance rules, who may prescribe what in Georgia, counseling/OBRA '90 duties, return-to-stock limits, collaborative drug therapy management, vaccine protocols, and confidentiality/HIPAA obligations that protect patient health information.

Area 3 — Dispensing Requirements (24%)

Focus on corresponding responsibility, transfers, prospective DUR, Georgia PDMP dispenser reporting (Schedule II–V within 24 hours), labeling and packaging, situations that prohibit dispensing, and nonprescription/behind-the-counter products such as pseudoephedrine.

Area 4 — Pharmacy Operations (21%)

Cover DEA ordering (Form 222), inventories, theft/loss (Form 106), disposal (Form 41), delivery/mail rules, generic substitution, USP compounding standards as adopted by Georgia, central-fill arrangements, automated systems, and GDNA inspection readiness.

Allocate study time roughly in proportion to these weights, then overlay Georgia-specific statutes (O.C.G.A. Title 26 Chapter 4; Title 16 Chapter 13) and Board Rules Chapter 480 wherever they are stricter than federal baselines.

Logistics, Scheduling, and the Testing Environment

NABP Fees

Per the current NABP Candidate Application Bulletin, expect a nonrefundable $100 eligibility application fee per MPJE jurisdiction plus a separate $170 exam purchase fee once eligibility is granted ($270 combined before optional Pearson rescheduling or other fees). Georgia is not on the list of jurisdictions that add NABP’s separate $85 Eligibility Service processing fee for MPJE. After purchase, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE Professional Center.

To take the Georgia MPJE, you must first apply for licensure with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy and separately register for the exam with the NABP. Once your eligibility is confirmed by the Board, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) from Pearson VUE, the testing vendor. You must schedule your exam before the ATT expires.

Pearson VUE testing centers have strict security protocols. You will be required to present primary and secondary identification, undergo a palm vein scan or fingerprinting, and place all personal belongings in a locker. You cannot bring any study materials, phones, or even your own pens into the testing room. You will be provided with an erasable whiteboard booklet and a marker.

During the exam, time management is your greatest ally. With 120 questions in 150 minutes, you have roughly 75 seconds per question. Some questions will be straightforward and take only 20 seconds, giving you a buffer for more complex, multi-layered scenario questions. Do not get bogged down on a single question. If you are truly stumped, make your best educated guess, eliminate obvious wrong answers, and move on. Remember, the CAT system will penalize you heavily for leaving questions unanswered at the end of the time limit.

Scoring and Results

The MPJE uses a scaled scoring system ranging from 0 to 100, with a score of 75 required to pass. It is crucial to understand that a scaled score of 75 does NOT mean you answered 75% of the questions correctly. The scaled score is a mathematical calculation that takes into account the difficulty of the specific questions you answered. Because it is an adaptive test, a candidate who correctly answers difficult questions will achieve a passing score with a lower raw percentage of correct answers than a candidate who answers easier questions. You will typically receive your official results online through your NABP e-Profile within a few weeks of taking the exam.
