Education can reduce the 8-year experience requirement. You claim one waiver based on your highest qualifying education—waivers are not stacked.

Waiver traps

• Stacking degrees: A bachelor’s plus a master’s does not yield 4 + 5 years waived. Take the single highest applicable waiver (master’s/doctorate = 5 years).
• Unrelated majors: ASQ’s experience is BoK-based; the degree waiver shortens years of experience required but does not replace the need for quality/audit-related work history.
• Internships / unpaid work: Do not assume unpaid internships count as “full-time paid” without ASQ confirmation.
• Applying too early: If you are six months short after the waiver math, wait—rejected applications cost time and can disrupt exam scheduling plans.

1. Bachelor’s + 5 years quality engineering (3 years as lead with disposition authority): Waiver = 4 years → need 4 years experience. Candidate has 5 → eligible (decision-making years met).

Retake window

ASQ’s usual structure offers the reduced retake rate for 2 years from the previous attempt. If you wait longer than that window, you may fall back to a higher fee structure. After a fail:

1. Read your diagnostic/performance feedback (when provided) by domain.
2. Rebuild weak BoK areas before rebooking—especially Domain II and I.
3. Schedule inside the 2-year reduced-rate window if you intend to retake.
