A.The left-hand side
B.The right-hand side
C.The centre of the carriageway
D.Either side, depending on which is quieter
Explanation: Zambian Highway Code Rule 174: keep to the left, except when you intend to overtake, turn right, or have to pass stationary vehicles or pedestrians on the road. Zambia is a left-hand traffic country.

A.Know the Highway Code very well and put it into practice
B.Drive as fast as the posted limit allows at all times
C.Use the horn whenever you approach a junction
D.Overtake on the left to keep traffic moving
Explanation: Highway Code Rule 110 lists ten basic rules. The first is: know the Highway Code very well and put it into practice. The Code is the road user's guide; keeping to its rules makes the roads safer for everyone.
3According to the second basic rule of driving, what should you do to avoid crashes?
A.Concentrate all the time on your driving
B.Keep one eye on your phone for navigation
C.Follow the vehicle ahead as closely as possible
D.Rely on other drivers to watch for you
Explanation: Rule 110(ii) states: concentrate all the time on your driving to avoid crashes. The Code notes that it is often the smallest detail that gives the clue to what will happen next.
4What does basic rule (vi) require you to do with speed?
A.Adapt your speed to road and traffic conditions and never exceed speed limits
B.Always travel at the posted maximum so you do not impede others
C.Ignore posted limits if the road looks empty
D.Match the speed of the fastest vehicle in your lane
Explanation: Rule 110(vi) says: adapt your speed according to road and traffic conditions and never exceed speed limits. Rule 140 adds that the speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed regardless of conditions.
5When may you use the horn?
A.Only to give warning of your presence, while the vehicle is moving
B.To greet friends at the roadside
C.To hurry a driver who is slow to move at a green light
D.Whenever you are parked and about to open a door

9Who MUST wear a seat belt when a motor vehicle is being driven?
A.The driver, at all times
B.Only front-seat passengers on highways
C.Only children, never the driver
D.Nobody, if the trip is shorter than 2 km
Explanation: Highway Code Rule 126(a): a driver MUST wear a seat belt always when driving a motor vehicle. Rule 125 adds that belts must be fitted and always used, even on short trips. A front-seat passenger above the age of 10 also MUST wear a belt (Rule 126(c)).
10What does a red traffic light mean?
A.Stop and wait behind the stop line on the carriageway
B.Slow down and proceed if the junction looks empty
C.Stop only if another vehicle is already in the junction

About the Zambia RTSA Theory Test Exam

The Zambia provisional driving-licence theory test is the mandatory knowledge assessment administered by the Road Transport and Safety Agency before a provisional (learner's) licence can be issued. Under the Road Traffic (Driving Licence) Regulations, 2020 (SI 50 of 2020), a driving examiner must confirm that the applicant understands the rules of the road, road traffic signs, basic first aid, and the controls of a motor vehicle of the class applied for. The test may be written, oral or electronic. The official study document is the Sixth Edition of the Zambian Highway Code, issued under section 231 of the Road Traffic Act, 2002, together with the SADC road-sign system used in Zambia. Bookings for the theory test are made online on Zamportal. A provisional licence is valid for three months; L-plates and a supervising driver (at least 21, with three years' experience in that category) are required. This free English-language four-option MCQ bank is a study adaptation of that official scope — it is not an official RTSA paper, not an oral-test simulation, and not a substitute for the later practical driving test.

Assessment

A driving examiner must confirm that the applicant understands (a) rules of the road, (b) road traffic signs, (c) basic first aid, and (d) controls of a motor vehicle of the class applied for. Delivery may be written, oral or electronic. Passing leads to a provisional driving licence (Form DL 3) valid for three months; the practical driving test follows after seven days unless the Director permits an earlier sitting.

Zambia RTSA Theory Test Study Tips from Top Performers

1Revise the four regulation 5 topics as a checklist: rules of the road, road traffic signs, basic first aid, and vehicle controls for your class.
2Memorise the ten basic rules of driving in Highway Code Rule 110 — they are a frequent theory-test theme in Zambian driving schools.
3Learn SADC sign families by function (control, command, prohibition, reservation, warning, information) before memorising individual pictures.
4Drill the Highway Code stopping-distance table (Rule 141) and the 2-second / doubled-when-wet following rule — those figures are published and examinable.
5Book only through Zamportal. Bring a medical certificate and NRC or passport. After you pass, display L-plates and drive only with a supervisor who is at least 21 and has three years' experience in that category.
