Frequently Asked Questions
What is ECZ Physics 5054?
Physics 5054 is the Examinations Council of Zambia School Certificate and GCE Ordinary Level Physics subject. It follows the Ministry of Education Physics Syllabus for Form 1–4 and is listed on the official 2026 School Certificate timetable as 5054/1 and 5054/2.
How many questions are on the official Physics 5054 exam?
ECZ does not publish a fixed official item count. The 2026 timetable gives two written papers — 5054/1 Physics 1 (1 hour) and 5054/2 Physics 2 (2 hours) — plus school-based assessment. These 100 multiple-choice items are a study adaptation, not a copy of the official papers.
Are these official ECZ past-paper questions?
No. They are original OpenExamPrep questions written from the 2024 Ministry of Education Physics syllabus and the 2026 ECZ paper times. They do not replace official past papers, mark schemes, Paper 2 extended writing or the school-based practical.
How is ECZ Physics graded?
Each subject is graded 1–9. Grade 1 is Distinction; Grades 2–6 are credit-level awards that most Zambian universities look for; Grades 7–8 are passes; Grade 9 is Fail/Ungraded.
What does Physics 5054 cost in 2026?
Public and grant-aided School Certificate candidates pay no candidate fee. Private School Certificate candidates pay K600 per candidate. GCE candidates pay K200 per subject, according to the ECZ fees page.
Are calculators allowed, and what value of g should I use?
The 2026 School Certificate timetable permits calculators in Physics. The Ministry of Education data sheet lists g = 9.81 m/s². These practice items state g = 10 N/kg or 10 m/s² when a numerical value is needed, which is the usual O-Level working value unless a question specifies otherwise.
