The WY-TOPP Grade 8 Science assessment evaluates student mastery of the 2023 Wyoming Content and Performance Standards for Science, which replaced the 2021 edition and became fully assessed on WY-TOPP beginning in the 2025-26 school year. It uses three-dimensional science learning, integrating Disciplinary Core Ideas across Physical Science (33-38%), Life Science (33-38%), and Earth and Space Science (28-33%) with Science and Engineering Practices and Crosscutting Concepts; engineering and design expectations are embedded within all three strands rather than reported separately. Results are reported as a grade-specific scale score and one of four performance levels, with Proficient beginning at 804. Because the science standards were reduced, WDE conducted a new data-validation and standard-setting process for spring 2026 and released official science results in fall 2026; individual student reports for science no longer include domain-level reporting.
