About the SC READY Science Grade 4 Exam
The South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessment (SC READY) in Science evaluates Grade 4 students on statewide academic standards. The test assesses scientific inquiry, physical science concepts (energy, light, sound, circuits), life science systems (plant/animal structures, food webs, adaptations), and Earth/space science processes (weather, water cycle, rocks, lunar phases).
Assessment
One untimed online section of 45 items assessing the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Science Standards 2021: Energy 12-16 items; Waves 9-12; Organisms and the Environment 12-16; Earth Processes and Features 9-12. The test includes three stimulus sets that each provide context for three related items, plus 7 embedded field-test items. Depth of Knowledge ranges are DOK 1 at 0-10%, DOK 2 at 60-70%, and DOK 3 at 25-30%.
Time Limit
Not timed. SCDE publishes an approximate 90 minutes for scheduling only. The test is one section given in a single day.

No pass mark is set. SC READY results are reported in four performance levels: Does Not Meet Expectations, Approaches Expectations, Meets Expectations, and Exceeds Expectations.
