About the FFPMRCA Pain Medicine Exam
The FFPMRCA is the Fellowship examination of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. The current assessment uses an MCQ paper and clinical and science SOE components to test pain medicine knowledge, clinical judgement, scientific foundations and readiness for UK specialist pain medicine practice.
Assessment
The current FFPMRCA is divided into two sections taken separately: a Multiple Choice Question paper and a Structured Oral Examination. Candidates must pass the MCQ before applying for the SOE, and both sections must be passed to obtain fellowship.

MCQ: one three-hour sitting. SOE: Clinical Pain Medicine SOE1 is 52 minutes including 10 minutes preparation, 21 minutes long-case examination and 21 minutes for three short clinical questions; Clinical Science SOE2 is 30 minutes.
