1A bus lane is separated by a broken line. May an ordinary car enter it to make a lawful right turn?
A.Yes, subject to safe manoeuvring and the applicable lane rules
B.No, a broken line has the same effect as a barrier
C.Yes, and the car automatically gains priority over buses
D.Only if the car makes a complete stop in the lane before turning
Explanation: The road rules permit entering such a lane for a right turn where it is separated by a broken marking. The manoeuvre must still be safe and does not give the turning car priority over existing lane traffic.
2In a settlement, a route bus signals to leave a marked stop in a recessed bay. What must approaching drivers do?
A.Maintain speed because the bus is outside the traffic lane
B.Reduce speed and stop if necessary to let the bus move off
C.Yield only if the bus has entered their lane already
D.Yield only on a single-lane street
Explanation: The settlement rule requires other drivers to slow and, if necessary, stop to let the route vehicle leave the marked recessed stop. The bus driver must also take precautions against a collision.
3There is no passenger platform at a marked bus stop. What distance on either side of the stop sign is generally covered by the PDR stopping prohibition for other vehicles?
A.10 metres
B.30 metres
C.50 metres
D.100 metres
Explanation: Where no landing platform exists, the rule prohibits stopping within 30 metres of the stop sign on either side. The sign is the measurement reference in this situation.
4A bus turns left on the main circular green signal while an oncoming car goes straight on green. No controller or separate protected movement changes priority. What must the bus driver do?
A.Turn first because it is a route vehicle
B.Yield to the oncoming car
C.Proceed if the bus is longer than the car
D.Require the car to stop by signalling left
Explanation: A non-rail vehicle turning left on the main green signal yields to oncoming traffic going straight or turning right. Route-bus status does not give a general left-turn priority.
5A bus is turning into a road that pedestrians are lawfully crossing. What is the driver's duty?
A.Complete the turn before yielding
B.Yield to the crossing pedestrians
C.Yield only if a pedestrian signal is installed
D.Yield only when turning left
Explanation: Drivers turning right or left must yield to pedestrians crossing the carriageway they enter. The duty applies at both regulated and unregulated intersections.
6A bus faces a traffic controller's chest. The controller's right arm is extended forward toward the bus. Which movement is permitted by this signal?
A.Straight ahead only
B.Right turn only
C.Left turn or U-turn only
D.Any direction
Explanation: With the right arm extended forward, vehicles approaching from the controller's chest may turn right only. Traffic from the left flank has different permissions, so the approach direction must be identified precisely.
7What is the general outside-settlement speed ceiling for an ordinary passenger bus that is not a minibus, when no lower special restriction applies?
A.70 km/h
B.80 km/h
C.90 km/h
D.110 km/h
Explanation: The specific PDR ceiling for buses other than minibuses is 90 km/h outside settlements. Posted restrictions, conditions, or special passenger operations can require a lower speed.
8A bus is carrying an organized group of children outside a settlement. What specific maximum speed applies if no lower limit governs?
A.60 km/h
B.70 km/h
C.80 km/h
D.90 km/h
Explanation: Organized child-group carriage by bus or minibus has an 80 km/h ceiling outside settlements. The ordinary 90 km/h bus ceiling does not override this special restriction.
9Which pair gives the general speed ceilings for a bus in a settlement and in a residential or pedestrian zone, respectively?
A.50 km/h and 20 km/h
B.60 km/h and 20 km/h
C.50 km/h and 30 km/h
D.60 km/h and 30 km/h
Explanation: The general settlement ceiling is 50 km/h, while residential and pedestrian zones have a 20 km/h ceiling. A lower safe speed may still be necessary.
10Does sign 3.2, prohibiting motor-vehicle movement, prohibit a route bus from following its established route through the signed area?
A.Yes, without any route-vehicle exception
B.No; vehicles following established routes are exempt from this sign
C.Only smaller route minibuses are exempt
D.The exception requires hazard warning lights
Explanation: Sign 3.2 has an exception for vehicles moving on established routes. This does not give a bus a blanket exemption from unrelated prohibitions or permit arbitrary off-route driving.

Ukraine Theory Test D: Suggested Study Strategy

1Study the official current questions and the PDR passenger-carriage provisions.
2Distinguish a bus driver's priority from the continuing duty to prevent a collision.
3Check whether a tyre rule refers to all buses or specifically intercity service.
4Use darkness, rather than an invented fixed clock window, when studying the child-group restriction.
5Practise driving, evacuation and first aid with qualified instructors; MCQs cannot demonstrate performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the official format and pass standard?

The Category D computer theory test contains 20 questions with a 20-minute limit. No more than two mistakes are allowed, meaning at least 18 correct answers.

Who can apply for Category D?

The minimum age is 21. The cited March 2026 HSC MIA guidance requires a valid B, C1, C or D1 licence and more than three years of driving experience. Theory preparation, practical training and the practical state exam follow, with the required identity, licence and medical-fitness documents.

How much do the state tests cost?

Theory costs 250 UAH per attempt and the state practical test costs 420 UAH. Payment commission, school training and licence issuance are separate costs.

Is this official English exam material?

No. These are independent English-language MCQ study adaptations. HSC MIA publishes its own questions and provides English testing for legally present foreign and stateless candidates; Ukrainian remains the general assessment language.

Does Category D automatically give Category D1?

No. HSC MIA says the categories must be obtained separately. Its guidance describes one theory exam and separate practical tests when applicants train for D and D1 together.
